Wedding Footage/ Steadicam practice

The wedding vid is password-protected.

The Steadicam stuff (are you actually using a Steadicam, or something like Flowpod or Glidecam?) is shaky. It takes hours of shooting to smooth it out. I look back at my first footage with my Glidecam rig and I'm almost ashamed of it... but that it took that to get to where I am now, which still needs work, I'm sure. And the singer was noticeably out-of-sunc with the track.

oops unpassworded it.

Yeah, I'm missing this tiny screw on my steadicam merlin, I don't know if it makes it harder to keep things steady or not. But yeh, still getting used to the shakiness.

Well, the singer isn't singing the same song, so i just tried to get certain mouth movements to match like "pouring rain".

steady cam stuff is shakey..from side to side....the editing on the singer could have tricked me. nice looking image.

how come I can't make my dvx footage to look as good as your footage in here

Aw, I felt that way (still do) not too long ago. I've learned things that greatly improve the image is 1. framing, 2. More light, 3. setting the iris correctly, 4. proper white balance, 5. proper color correction, 6. tripods and 7. (this one took me months to figure out) compression.

Why don't you show me some of your stuff and maybe I can see what your worried about.

What file format are you using to upload to Vimeo, I never get my footage to upload that clear.......Steadycam footage may have been a bit shakey but i liked it alot, great color and composition and it flowed really well to me.

nice wedding footy :)
the wedding itself looked stll squeezed though and the reception part looks normal ..definately have to Pm u about ur compression. What do u edit with?

I use Sony Vegas Pro 8.0 and use this the non-hd compression outlined in this site here. I'm pretty sure if you do the same thing in fcp it will compress the same way. i think the key was making sure the timeline properties were set correctly, setting the blend mode to interpolate and making the size of the file 848 x 480 (which might explain the squeezed look). Since i shot in 16:9 squeeze on the dvx, i think i might have to play with the proportions of the upload size to get it perfect.

i found it a bit dark in spots , and seemed squeezed. if your not moving use sticks. on sticks you can reframe for alot of different shots . can,t change up as fast with a steadicam thats just not moving. most of those shots would have looked better from sticks. use the steadi for more like walking backwords infrount of bride type shots. hard to do both from one camera weddings.

question, my images were a bit warm before i cced them so i cooled them down with color curves...but the downside was that the shadows got a bit darker than i'd like them...any idea how i can cool down a picture but leave the shadows a bit lighter?
