WEB applications and HPX300

What is the best recording format to shoot with the HPX300 for web applications and what output format after edditing is best if you want to put clips on a website ???

Somewhere I read that 30 is bad if you want to go to 24 but 24 to 30 is ok. So then he should shoot in 24pn? It also saves space on the P2.

Curious,
Robert A. Ober

I would go with 720/24pN. Vimeo supports HD but it's always 24p, is it not? Therefore you'd be better off with 24p to begin with?

Makes sense.

OT to Mr. Green: You writing a HPX300 book? I am going from an XL1 to the 300 and a real book that I can take with me would be comforting.

Thanks,
Robert A. Ober

I forgot to tell that I live in a PAL country so that would than be 720/25p as the best recording format ??? And what should be the output format than from FCP to be able to put it on a website? Why not record 720/50p, just a matter of saving space ?

I've heard they fixed it a while ago, so 30p HD is now supported. 25p has been supported for a while.

I don't know of any websites that offer streaming video at rates faster than 30 fps, even standard def. But this does not mean that such sites do not exist.

But if I want to put a video on a web site, do I use Vimeo, quicktime or what other player is suitable and available and again what rec. format on the hpx300 should I take and what format should i deliver in.

Make your life easy and shoot in 720pn and edit as you would... after editing you encode your video and upload to Vimeo...

Vimeo has compression recommendations on their site...

Generally would would encode as a Quicktime H264 file...

In reality you could use any format to shoot... the trick is getting the encoding to look good in reference to file size...

Garbage in garbage out... so if your recording looks crap ... the encoding will be worse..

Cheers

For "The Lake" for TheWB.com I shot AVC-I 100 720p 24pN and I believe that the output was H264. Brian Voelkerding, our editor, cut in FCP at ProRes.

If you shot in 24p, deliver as 24p. If you shot in 60i or 30p, deliver in 30p. Don't forget to deinterlace 60i.

what if I shoot in 720/60P(50p) in what shoot I deliver?

Unless you use your own server and web host, most free hosting sites would require you to decimate it to 720p30 or 720p25 (drop 1/2 the temporal resolution by selecting even or odd frames)
