We went all out on this one, "California Livin" music video, need feedback!

Hey. Nice models. Nice location. Song was OK. The video really didn't 'gel' together for me. Not sure all of the reasons why. Here's one that I seemed to notice most. Shooting "overexposed' can be a style and can be deliberate. Too much of it can be distracting. I think that was the main thing for me. Thanks for posting! Welcome to DVXUser! Cheers!

I wanted to like the vid, and all the components were in place for the genre. The performances were good. Here's what I thought could be better. First, the dialog at the beginning sounded low budget (like on camera mic.) Next the interior lighting looked you filmed entirely with existing lighting. Nothing popped (except the add-in flares.) I'm guessing this was probably done guerrilla style (maybe so the hotel wouldn't freak seeing a bunch of gear being hauled in?) The end result is everything inside looked dull, soft and underexposed, then as mentioned you did go a little crazy blowing everything out on the exteriors. At the end of the day, most people are probably cool just checking out the hotties, so none of this matters anyhow!! Good effort!

Personally i found the white bars very distracting, they take a lot of the attention of the video. I like some shots in there, but I found the exposure of many times, either to dark or blown out.

IMO I think a first step to correct it would be to take away the white bars, and do something about the text at the beggining. Take away the "Royale motif media group". It looks kinda cheap, rather put a discreet text in the left corner. it makes it unserious, and I guess that you were very serious since you went "all in".

I liked the overall video.

The outside shots worked for me as I didn't really think of them as overexposed but more like a “bleached bypass” look / style.

The opening scene in the hotel did not work for me. The lighting seemed flat and the acting from the lead female looked “forced”.

The exterior shots worked.
Some of the interior shots looked“uneven” and what I mean by that is that the saturation on some of the interior shots looked uneven. Deep color saturation to light color saturation.

All in all however I thought it worked as a music video.
Nice pace editing and framing.

Great tunes deserve better production and post. Good acting and editing (cutting) but it's missing some serious color grading and composition and lighting not so professional. Otherwise - Good!

I'd like to know how you did your anamorphic flares... they looked nice, better than what I can knock together in Sony Vegas...
