FS7: We are listening

Well done, more credit to you. From one old Bristolian to another. Did my time at BBC Whiteladies Road. Keep it up Morgan.

Beautifully shot, nice work Sam.

Speaking about style rather than execution, there were some strange choices made with the grade to my eye. Two caveats - 1) I'm only saying this because I know that you value constructive criticism, and; 2) I'm not assuming it was you that made the grade choices!

I imagine they were going for a collage-type effect by mixing the colour monochrome, but it felt like about an 80/20 ratio. Almost like a sample sent back from the colourist, with a note attached "pick one". All the colour shots looked nice and low-con, and yet the mono had quite aggressively crushed blacks (still looked nice, but very different). Can you give any insight into why they chose this way of presenting your lush footage?

Thanks for sharing,

jason

P.S. Were all the moving shots Ronin? Looks like you had a track/dolly in there once or twice too.

Hi
I had no influence on the colour processing- afaik the project was going to be black and white - the director monitored mostly with a b+w lut that I made for my ninja which is fed wirelessly from the camera.

I think the grade is done without the finesse that a pro colourist would achieve.

The fs7 is moved on my dolly eg the man on the sofa push in.

One shot (girl with "tattoos") is my ronin on crane which is far more stable than arm holding the ronin

:)
