C100: WDR sharpness setting used

Hi people,

Just curious as to what sharpness setting people are using with Wide DR.

Im at -8 but still finding it a little sharp. I might go down to -10.

I'm at -6 and afraid to go down any further for fear of making wide shots look soft. Some on this forum have advised it's easier to bring it down in post rather than trying to sharpen it in post.

When I was at -2 I thought it was too sharp in that I saw facial pores in close ups.

Eew, I would beg to differ. Sharpening in post is far better quality than sharpening in-camera, plus you have the option of sharpening selectively and adjusting shot-by-shot. You can put sharpness IN, you can't take it OUT. Remember that C-Log has no sharpening at all.

Furthermore, if you're shooting chromakey, any sharpening puts an indelible black edge around your key. The more you use, the thicker the line. Therefore, I have a WDR at -10 for sharpness specifically for Chromakey.

Having said that, I have other settings, -2 and -6, for when I'm doing fast turnaround and general candid stuff. For that kind of work, the clients desire 'shiny happy people' and that means sharp colourful pictures without faffing around with grading. So, yes - a bit of in-camera sharpening does help.
