Waveform/Vectorscope HVX & Final Cut

In the log and capture window of Final Cut Pro 5, is it possible to use the Waveform and Vectorscope to monitor video signal on HVX WHILE shooting DVCPROHD 720/1080 to P2 card.

Similar to DVRACK, yet HD?

We do, it's dedicated to the Varicam. Budget won't allow for another so I'd like to find an inexpensive alternative.

Which one do you have...many of them have multiple inputs. You don't need to be looking at the Varicam ALL the time.

I believe it's a Tectronix... but I won't know for sure until tomorrow.

However the cameras will be in different locations at certain times.... In those situations it'd be nice to utilize the scopes in FCP or a similar program.

To my experience the scopes in FCP are not in real time.
Just show the data of one frame at a time. Correct me iff I'm wrong.

Well I did it in a jam once with the DVX.
While the camera is connected via firewire open the "log and capture window", then click on the "clip settings" tab and finally click on "scopes" (make sure video is checked).
It appeared to be real time and fairly accurate... of course this was standard DV. Not DVCPROHD, although I don't know why it would be any different.

The scopes in the log and capture window are realtime, but they are disabled when you start captureing.
You should really test it first as the Apple codec implements a gamma shift which midght get you midtone wrong...
Also I believe it's only scanning 16 lines across the image, so it can miss tiny details and specular highlights.

I just tested my HVX, the scopes in the capture window are real time. I don't know about recording to P2 at the same time. I guess if you can send the signal via firewire at the same time it will work. When you record to P2 is that an option? Sorry my P2 cards don't come in till tomorrow.

sorry Anders,

Your post wasn't there when I started typing. By the way, thanks for making FCP Rescue, its a great program!
