HI folks,

Here is my latest release, an event in Austin Texas of the sport downhill skateboarding. This was this past sunday on August 8th. It was shot with the Canon t2i and kit lens, as well as a Vixia HF200 with a wide angle attachment and GoProHD helmet mounted camera. Aside from the gopro footage and a few shots with the Vixia camera I did all of the camera work as well as the editing in Premiere CS5 on Windows 7. Please watch in the entirty, it is a 2 part video with TONS of carnage in the second part. Tell me what you think of it.

Hey Tylers86. What you have here is some GREAT subject matter right? Could be LOTS of fun to watch and share. Here's what EVERYONE is going to unavoidably experience watching this:

1. Stabilize: At the beginning there was so much shake in the camera...it was hard to watch. I almost turned it off. It literally made my stomach turn. That's NOT a criticism right? That's a fact. On your ACTION shots...anyone with a brain will give you the benefit of the doubt. I'm talking about 0:19-0:35. Clean that stuff up! Get an IS lens or use a tripod/monopod/shoulder mount...WHATEVER...but...shots like that made it hard to watch. Normally...it's like..who cares...but here's why I care: This is some GREAT subject matter...really cool stuff...and it wouldn't take much to clean it up...and it would be GREAT.

2. CUT/Too long: Internet vids can't usually be soooo loooong. You pointed it out your self....2 parts...great carnage at the end. Maybe consider a shorter re-edited version for the internet. Highlights if you will. I posted a vid last weekend..(really lame/dumb). But...when I was editing, it ended up being 4 minutes. My goal, cut it in HALF. Which I did...2min...I re-edited again...my goal: cut it in half AGAIN. It ended up being 1:21 or so...still too long...but I ran out of time...so I just posted it.

3. Know your strengths: You've got some REALLY cool shots from the helmet cam. Seeing these people flying by and "eating it", is FREAKIN FUN! Seeing from the helmet cam is sooo cool! WORK THAT FOOTY!!! That stuff isn't going to be EVERYWHERE like the flower on a bee, child in the back yard, wife cooking in the kitchen...heck even skater in the park....this is FREAKIN DOWN HILL BLOOD BATH....from a FIRST PERSON VIEW!!!! Woohoooo!!!! VERY COOL...so...WORK IT...cut your stuff to emphasize your assets!! (Why do you think Pam An/Lee always wears fitted tops man?) lol... :)

Keep it up!! I wanna see more of this....Thanks a MILLION for sharing!!!

Thanks for the critique double H L.

I actually used the "Opteka X grip" almost the entire time. I had picked up the grip the day or two before and this was the first time I had used it. I think its a great little tool but still translates movement on video a lot, some of the shots turned out pretty good though, I just need more practice with it.

During the podium and raffling, there was a huge crowd and holding the camera up above everyone was straining, which didnt do much to help with stable footage. I still am looking for a fluid tripod, so if you have any suggestions for something in the $70 range I would love to hear it

I feel you on it being long and I feel thats why some people in my 'scene' have not made too much comments on it, because they probably didnt watch the whole thing. I guess the main high lights was all the crashing and feel that the song I chose to use fit well with the sequence, and I wanted it to take up the whole song.

A really good photog also had two video cameras out that day and is making his edit now, and I am interested in how his approach is going to be and what feed back hes gonna get. Ill be using the GoPro helmet camera a lot more as well, we can do some really fun stuff with that and dont always wear it on the helmet while riding, Ill be sure to put some more stuff up here!
