watch this sk8 vid fooos!!!

these skate vids are so common i can't even watch them anymore unless either the skaters or the filmmaker brings something new and interesting to the table. i've seen some with kickass skaters cut to kickass music that were at least entertaining. this one seemed more like camcorder at the skate park with skaters that are just okay. i have no critique other than if you're gonna do something that a million other people have done, do it better....

...and don't start a mac / pc debate. pointless and boring.

What do those mac commercials have to do with your video? YouTube is more of your audience if it is the "quick edit" you are trying to achieve. But then again what does editing fast or shooting unrehearsed have to do with your content/subject? If you know what you are shooting and shoot for the edit, when you finally get into post, your edit is more streamlined and focused. Many short 2-4 minutes films I make are usually edited pretty quick. Once I find a piece of music that works, everything seems to fall into place. But I usually have a tune in mind when I'm shooting. Like when I see a subject, a tune pops into my head and then when i'm in editing, dig through my iTunes and find that song that I was thinking of or something similar.

Again 5 minute shorts sound easy. Most cases yeah. But if you are asked to slim down say a 1 hour short into an even shorter 5 minute or 1 minute preview - that's a different story.

I think a better meaning of quick and unrehearsesd would be to edit in camera. Meaning (if the *talent is good) shoot EXACTLY what you want. Then when you are home, capture, skip the timeline, compress, post it. That, IMHO, is raw.

*talent - could be anything from the skater, actors, trees, farting sounds. I didn't mean the talent of the person behind the camera. Again, IMHO, anyone can learn to shoot with a video camera. Learning to shoot well takes time and practice. BUT learning to edit well - **** - that's a whole other skill level and can take even longer to get good at.

Honestly...You could have shot the same video on a camcorder from WalMart.

You should work on your cinematography, editing and your attitude.
 
don't be defensive when people comment. people here are quite honest and will let you have it when the work is weak but just as quickly blow you up when it is good. if people say it needs work, it probably does. take it with a grain of salt and consider it. otherwise, if you know it's perfect and can't be told anything, why post it here? you won't get any "atta boy's" just of of politeness.....

yes vidal sasoon and many other non skate realated comapanys own the rights to
publish fashion videos for skteboarders honest!! so many of the underground videos actually get props for being less polished and ruff like the targeted audiance i didnt shoot for impressing the non skater crowed like other artist who appeal to ther own folks somtimes less is more !! less direction less framing
less perfection for a less than perfect crowed!!
you dont like it you might like those cigeret adds for kids better they make all
the comercial work in stores right now ,where im from peopele know this

and i still witness network tv offering harder cuts than mine !!

I do not want to revive a topic I really love to hate, but I can not seem to resist.

Joemiked, first of all, not having a spell check is a horrible excuse for what you are trying to pass as the english language. You either have no intention/respect to help other readers understand you, or your teachers in grade school failed you horribly (in which you should demand your tax money back). I have had great conversations with dvx/hvx users from foriegn countries who can speak/write much better english, and try so with respect. With that said, I will try to make some points I wish to address without being excessively aggressive. The fact is your posts have pinched a nerve with me. If any moderator thinks this is to 'personal', feel free to delete my post.

All kids have demands for media. I don't think "less is more" (in the way you use it) is the standard... or ever will be. Unless the new age of cinema will be amateur home videos. The last part of this quote is either to grammatically slaughtered or I do not know this particular terminology relating to skate boarding.

I know a gritty handheld "reality" ("less polished") style when I see it. Yours was not it. This rationalization is dangerous to your potential. You are selling yourself short by believing this. Don't settle for less. Listen to us, push yourself. I hate to see you living in this denial.

You know how I feel about this video, I have posted my opinion. The purpose of this post is to hopefully slap you back on the right path.

I will leave it, but it is up to you to keep it or leave it. If you ever want to be a story teller, a filmmaker, or even an artist you must be able to at least THINK about creative choices within your medium. Don't abandon them. You have potential and apparently access to a great camera, now do something with it; something that everybody and their mom can't do.

Show us how you see skateboarding, how you want others to see it. Show us what you can do. Your "less is more" theory is just an excuse. Less can be more if it is a creative choice.

Listen to CheezWeezl, we are only trying to help. Take it with a grain of salt. I have no problem with your video as a step in your progression as a filmmaker. But I do have a problem with your bad attitude and self destructive rationalizations. You are just going to shoot yourself in the foot. This is only but my humble opinion. I usually try to stay more passive/polite, but I feel very strongly that I needed to try and get this out. Thanks and best of luck.

er dang ive been so busy i havent had my sheet set straight by prodigy
not the snoby weird one that pikcs you apart but that one that made techno music back in the ninteys they acual made it thru the media phase of the erlier
