Warranty on Used HMC150

I have been looking on e-bay to buy a "barely used" HMC150. Before I did, I contacted Panasonic by e-mail and received this back (below). Sounds like it's covered for one year, but the extended two year warranty requires a $150 evaluation by Panasonic?

Anyone else able to register and receive original warranty coverage on a used purchase?

"The person the camera is being purchase from must have had registered the camera within 30 days of purchase.

We have opened the option to transfer the remaining of the FREE extended 2-Year Limited Warranty to new owner under the condition, that camera is evaluated by one of Panasonic Broadcast factory service centers (Secaucus, NJ or Los Angeles, CA), before remaining warranty gets transferred. Fee for the evaluation process is $150 + S/H. This offer is available only for units sold by Panasonic Broadcast & Television Systems Company in USA . Original owner has to remove/delete camera from his/her PASS profile, so new owner can reregister it. Upon registration, new owner can send camera for evaluation, pay fee, and get reminder of the FREE extended 4-Year Limited Warranty. In case one buys the camera within first year it would be 4 Years starting the day camera is resold, or up to 10,000 total operational hours (including hours of use during the first year), whichever comes first.
All limitations of FREE extended 2-Year Limited Warranty apply. Please refer to the attached "P2 HD 5 Year Warranty Program Certificate sample.pdf".

Does that mean it has to be purchased from them directly, and not by a reseller like B&H?

So that would mean we'd have to pay $800 dollars more just to buy it from them ($3995), then another $150 to get it reevaluated.

That's just a little ridiculous.

I would never EVER buy a camera used from ebay. You never know if they switch out parts for cheaper parts.. or possibly something has happened with the camera causing them to want to sell it.

If you're going to spend that much on a camera, put out the little bit extra so that is new and you can use it fully and get the most value out of it.

Sounds a little arrogant. There ARE good, used cameras out there.

You just have to find trustworthy sellers who simply want to sell something they're not using anymore. Not everyone is out to scam someone.

How is it arrogant? Do tell. Where in my post did I ever say that "everyone is out to scam someone"...

I pretty clearly stated that :you never know," which also translates to you never are 100% sure... whereas if you bought from an authorized and trusted seller such as BH you can be sure the product isn't tampered.

I have had plenty of friends buy used cameras and encounter problems that weren't listed in the description.

This whole section eludes to it:

I've sold cameras on ebay. There are plenty of people looking for a decent deal on a camera that they might not be able to afford brand new.It doesn't mean I'm stuffing the boxes with bricks to pull one over on someone.

I've both bought and sold my last 4 cameras on eBay and the only time I was nearly ripped off was when I SOLD my XL1s. I have had mostly good experiences buying and selling gear on eBay.

For the life of me, I do not understand why the extended warranty on the 150 is not transferable to a subsequent owner if the original purchase is factory authorized.

The warranty goes with the hardware, not the user. Panasonic doesn't evaluate the original purchaser in any manner; why would it care about a subsequent owner?

Well it's just my opinion. I agree that the overwhelming majority are legit and good purchases available, but having 2 of my friends get in sticky situations just gives me a hesitation about it.
