*** WARNING *** QT7.4 update unstable!

I am in the final stages of a render from after effects A project that took two years
and I upgraded to 7.4 (what was I thinking) and it keeps quitting the render. this sucks
They need to fix this fast

Why or why or why or why would you upgrade in mid project?

I'm truly sorry for what occurred, but if it ain't broke why fix it?

Upgraded my wifes MacBook, QT Trailers at apple.com now take minutes to open or don´t open at all...
I never upgrade QT on the work macs though until reports say it´s safe...

I just reformatted, and here is my question, I dont have quicktime installed, and im really going to need it soon. Should i Install 7.4, or Find some older version?

Here's the link to the QT 7.3.1 downloads - pick the one that fits your OS:

If you are on the Mac, and have already upgraded, there are 2 solutions:

The long (and Apple Recommended one) is to use your OS disc to do an "Archive and Install," meaning it'll re-install the OS without blowing out your applications and files. This will take about an hour, plus you'll have to D/L all the updates (except QuickTime) since your OS disc came out. Just be sure to uncheck the 7.4 QuickTime update, or you'll be back where you started.

The Fast method (which I used this week) is to D/L the appropriate 7.3.1 image, and use a little utility program called Pacifist, which will open the 7.3.1 image, and will overwrite the 7.4 files with the older ones. If you do this option, do it smart - shut down EVERYTHING else, and reboot afterwards. It worked great for me, but there have been reports on the boards of it not working for them. Still, it took 5 minutes, plus the reboot.

Oh, and the primary symptom in AE seems to be renders stopping at almost exactly the 10 minute marker, with a message stating "You don't have permission to access this file." There's a lot of speculation it's tied to the new DRM for renting movies through iTunes. This is what I was getting, and rolling back to 7.3.1 fixed the problem.

What's strange is that after acknowledging these problems and reading about them online because my render's were getting an error mid-way through AE. I had to export a 3 minute peice in three parts. But i noticed that I had Quicktime version 7.3.1, so why would I be getting errors like that???

Apple has just released a new version of Quicktime, version 7.4.1 which can be downloaded here:

http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/

I have not done any tests, so can not vouch for the new version, however there is an article indicating this release is supposed to address the rendering issue:

Proceed with caution and at your own risk, but if you do proceed, please let us know if you meet with success or failure.

I've been editing with my new MacPro and have been having all kinds of problems with FCP. It keeps locking up and some of the QT files have gone corrupt. Is this because of the QT 7.4? Has Apple addressed this yet.
I'm wary of doing any more editing, or going to my my back-up footage if the Quicktime is going to corrupt it.
Any info?
Thanks,
Seamus

FYI. I've been using QT 7.4.1 for several weeks now without any rendering problems in AE CS3 for Windows.
