Wait a minute....Barry, did you say it can "STREAM" to a Laptop Hard Drive??

I think the Ipod may be our answer.

check out this article:

I thought this has been discussed numerous times and the conclusion was always:

An Ipod with it's 4200rpm drive would not be able to keep a sustained write rate of 100mbps or 12.5MBps.

But storing video and editing from it.....*might* work ok.

Is this still the concensus? Or has something changed?

Now if Apple made an Ipod with a faster HD like one of the new Hitachi's.....then technically it would work fine. ?????

Same topic but regarding the Varicam.

As I understand it, the Varicam doe snot have a FW port?
That's one of the reasons you always need the 1200deck?
If it does could I record the Varicam straight to the laptop?
At the 4:2:2?
If it doesn't, is there any other way, SDI thru a card would start to be a bear?
Wonder if I could out to computer while also recording to tape?

I know this is not a Varicam board, but I see that some folks have experience with it.

Cheers,
Chris
