wacom tablet?

Hi, I'm thinking of switching from a track pad to a wacom tablet. I was a mouse user until the numbness etc. I'd like to know if anyone is using these Wacom's or if not, what was your solution. Thanks.

Love my Wacom! I don't even have a mouse connected to my computer anymore, and I don't use many keyboard shortcuts. FCP, PhotoShop, and ProTools... I can bounce around with ease and use the tablet for all. It's much more efficient for my workflow.

Thx Alex

What models are you guys using? I'm on the hunt for a wacom but unsure about what size or feature set. I won't be doing fine by hand art with it just using instead of a mouse.

My friend who's a full time editor recommended the wacom pro model. Unlike Alex, he still uses a mouse in-conjunction with it. He has the medium at home and the large one at work.

he also added that the larger one was nice for effects work because it feels more fluid. medium is perfect for straight editing.

i'd love to hear some more opinions on this but I'm pretty much sold on the medium wacom pro

Love my wacom. Scratched the surface tho doing something once but it doesnt affect it's functionality tho. I trust the brand

Wacom Pro - medium. I think the large is too large for most people's use. If you are an actual illustrator I'm sure a larger area is very important.

I love using drawing tablets in PS, AE, Mudbox, Blender etc. As a replacement for a mouse...no way. My graphic designer brain has been using shortcut keys and a mouse for way too long. I am constantly switching input devices while using my tablet, a bit chaotic but works for me. Over time and as I got more comfortable, using the pen along with the touch gestures has become really enjoyable. For digital painting, the tablet is absolutely priceless, even with the intermittent software bugs/erratic pen behavior.

A tablet with excessive lag is worse than not having one at all. I'd make sure you have a fast gpu/underlying system to enable you to work without that maddening issue.

I have Wacoms on two of my workstations (WIN and MacPro). Medium 6X8 I think.
Mine are older and have both the cordless mouse and stylus/pen.

I really should invest more time configuring them, but as it turns out I use them mostly for Photoshop when I need to do something I cannot do as well with a mouse.
They look nice and work reliably, about 8 years now (I think).

Large Intous 3 for me, i have the R/L click mapped to the left buttons, and modifier keys to the right, and the lefthand slider is the mouse wheel, rarely use the mouse...

my oldest Wacom has been working for 15 years now, it's on my machine at home

Thanks for the responses. that was actually my next question. I've purchased the medium intuos and I'm curious how people are mapping these out for premeire etc
