I've just received today from TCP Voigtlander's distributor the Nokton 17.5mm f/0.95. I have this lens for 10 days and will do more tests, also in the night.
The lens is great and I'm very impressed with this first hands on. It's bigger and louder than it's brother the 25mm f/0.95. On the first clip you will see them both (shot with SLR Magic 12mm), then clip number two is taken with the 25mm and clip number three (and all the others) is shot with the 17.5mm, so you can see the difference of the field coverage.
This lens has very smooth aperture ring, especially when you switch it on the "no clic" position. The focus ring is quite smooth, like the 25mm. The minimum focus distance is very very short, you can shoot quite in front of the glass ! I will do more test to compare with the 25mm and the SLR Magic Cine lens 50mm later.

I'm playing around with mine on a reversing adapter right now - it's a great lens in both directions ;)

Very nice video. Can I ask, at what f-stop does the vignetting disappear?

I noticed at 16 seconds a shot which looks like it must be at f0.95 that has a ton of vignetting....

Thanks!

no no vignetting with this lens. I only had a 52mm ND filter on the first clips (in the apartment), and effectively it's vignetting with the step down ring (58mm to 52mm). Then a friend lend me a 62mm ND filter for all the others shots maybe it's also vignetting a little due to the step up ring. I tried today directly with a 58mm ND filter and it's ok.

Really sensational pics, including this one...

Good to know there was no grading involved (or needed) !

I was saving up for the Panasonic pancake 20mm F1.7, or perhaps the Panasonic Leica 25mm F1.4... but your vids have pretty much made me reconsider on the spot!

At 17.5mm, it seems you can get away without extra stablisation, which is fantastic.
Apart from nice wide (but not too wide) focal length, there seems to be a kind of "flatter" wide-latitude look to your pics.
Not sure how much of that is due to the natural light in those locations, as not all Voight 17 clips I've seen have the same look (?)

How have you found adding an ND Fader changes the overall look (apart from DOF)?

Pity it's about $500 more than I was planning to spend!
I guess the only other option would be the SLR Magic 12mm. How have you found they compare?
Any others worth considering against the Voigt 17?

Cheers...

Thanks Electric... maybe the ND filter gives something to the image, even if it is not supposed to do so... To my opinion the SLR is the cousin to the Voigt, in a way... Cheaper and wider, but slower... Difficult choice
