Voigtlander 17.5 / 0.95 coming...???

As long as we can get these type lenses shooting 4/3 works great for me.

The eagle has landed. Just unpacked the 17.5 and may post some shots .... but have to travel tomorrow morning ... let's see.

First impression: Perfect. Sturdy. Smooth. De-click mechanism works very good. Mounting it feels a bit tighter than the 25er. 15mm smallest focal distance allows some nice & strange compositions.

New love affair.... and yes: Voigtlaender has introduced another reason to stay with m4/3. Panasonic should be happy with what they did.

(15 mm? I wrote 15 mm. Major typo. Still nice to focus to somewhat less than 3 cm from the front lens)

How's the distortion!? Wide open performance? Lots of blurryish? Looking forward to examples.

AWESOMENESS!
I was about to purchase the 25mm .95 but saw this one just came out. Any reason to really have both?
Just ordered the 17.5mm. Looks amazing...
Can't wait to put on my first lens on my newly arrived AF100!

Thanks everyone, for your thoughts and opinions.

Please have mercy with me .... thing arrived at the door while we were packing for travel.... just hopped out and did take some shots.....

Very nice looking glass, Tipota, thanks- would love to see it on faces. Hmm... 17.5 or 25???

15mm minimum focus? Insane!

What gamma do you use?

15 mm is indeed a bit insane.... blush .... 15 cm would have been more realistic...... slightly embarrassing typo on my part.... still: it works as a near macro too and with it's characteristics and it's geometry enables to frame interesting shots... will go out hunting with it with my GH2 the next days...

On faces I think I do prefer the 25er so.

Setting Cine-likeV
Matrix Norm1
all colour, detail, coring, master ped -4

The de-clicked mode is fricken BRILLENT!

As said. Hide my WALLET!

Tax return. Paid tickets for a travel and the glass. I am happy. My wife is happy.... ;-)

It is a bit heavy, but I love that in lenses. Feels more "toolish". Less distortion than expected.

15 cm, about 5.9 inches, is still very nice (if not insane)- a semi-macro?

I guess it's a very nice medium-wide for b-roll, and the 25 would still be better for interviews and MS. Thanks for the feedback!

PhotoVillage (I think) said they're getting them in (or was it CameraQuest?) and they're $1249, IIRC. Tempting, but ... what I really want is a 35mm version. The 25 is a great lens, but it's just a tad too wide for portraiture, where the texture of the f/0.95 would be ideal. So a little bit longer (35mm focal length) would be perfect...

... but that 17.5mm is awfully tempting too...

Would like an answer to this as well. Was about to purchase a mint condition 25mm. but now interested in the 17.5. is there any reason to have both?

I wasn't very moved by the voigt 25.

This one will move me, I think.

There are lots of good fast 35's around, so I'm glad they helped fill the somewhat under served fast wide end of m43.

That darn Voigtlander 25mm has me spoiled. I just love that lens but I had planned to get more "future proof" lenses above it. I picked up an 85mm ZF and was planning on getting the ZF 35mm (probably the 2.0 f not the 1.4 $$) and the ZF 50mm to replace my Nikons, and then sit pat with that until I can get into some PL glass. That will take a while.

I admit that a 35mm Voigtlander would be pretty tempting, as is that 17mm. They are pretty pricey and I wonder which would make a better investment. Although, I have to admit that I like the AF100 a lot, I have a GH2 and investing in m4/3 lenses seems more and more like a pretty good idea.

Question is: What do you want to shoot with it? As I use all my Voigtlaenders also with my GH2 for photography, it makes sense for me to have both ... and, okay, I am a sucker for state of the art "historical" lenses with the feel of the Voigt's. A 17.5 is - beside that the sensor crops to something that is more like a 35ish frame - still a 17.5er. So it has certain characteristics one has to take into consideration. I love the 25er because it's for me the multi-purpose prime and works better for portraits for instance.

Beside all that and if you have the need and the budget: Have a look at the 75er f 1.8 Voigt. It's cheaper than the others but needs an adapter and focusses only down to 0.9 meter, but it's nearly as small as the 25er an a really nice lens. And as it is full format, you're sitting more in the "sweet spot" of the lens anyhow.
