Voigtlander 17.5 / 0.95 coming...???

Odd focal length to add at this point. A wider angle lens would have seemed a no brainer, & better seller.

Or a portrait lens with closer minimum focus distance than Voigtlander's M mounts. A 35/1.2, or 50/1.0, would be sweet.
 
A portrait lens would have been fantastic. 35/0.95 would have been perfect. Of course, there's the Zeiss 35/1.4 now, so, really, not that much need I guess. Whereas the ZF 18mm is an f/3.5, and the Voigtlander is f/0.95, so yeah, I'm looking at this new V pretty ravenously. That's nearly four stops faster... sixteen times as much light...

I pre-pre-ordered it just in case the rumour is true .... am really fascinated by what Voigtlaender seems able to bring out, merging new & old school in lens building ...
 
Did you guys note that it had the option to go 'clickless' on aperture by moving the ring forward?
 
I think I'm going to get one (when they are available) and just tell myself it's 35mm.
Sure have enjoyed my 25 f/0.95.

Can you imagine if they were to then go on to make a similarly-fast and well-built 42.5mm lens?

Then we'd have the MFT focal length equivalents of classic 35mm, 50mm and 85mm lenses, at an absolutely INCREDIBLE price/performance level.

I vote for that next. Followed by a 14mm (28mm equivalent) and 50mm (100mm equivalent) lengths.
 
Steve ... both the Voigtlaender 50 mm f 1.1 and the 75er 1.8 are extremely nice lenses (and the 35er too, but I don't own that) ..... but you have to attach them via a Leica-M Adapter and the 50mm is a bit bulky while the 75er is about the same size as the 25er. I think Panasonic should be happy that somebody started building such extremely fast MFT primes and I do hope that MFT will earn itself a future beside the consumer level.

Yean, I was talking about native MFT lenses - no adapter required - to match up as a "set" with the 17.5mm and 25mm lenses.

Would be nice, wouldn't it?

The logic should go as follows: 25mm 0.95 was a raving success for Voigtlaender. 17.5 mm 0.95 is a bit too expensive but the second true MFT lens with even more incredible features as the 15 cm minimum focal distance and - much more important - mechanics to click or de-click the lens.

If this is a hint to be detected in any way .... they really may go out to have a family of MFT super primes in the future. I dearly do hope so.

I'm in total agreement with that . . . would love to see them make a fast 42.5.

Good News: I just got this e-mail from Stephen at CameraQuest, "Greetings! The new Micro 4/3 Voigtlander 17/.95 lenses are in transit to CameraQuest.
This email is going out to those lucky customers who placed their deposit early enough to receive a 17/.95 from my 1st shipment."

Oh yeah!
 
Just shot an entire night documentary with the AF100 and GH2 with the 25mm. For the interiors I would inevitably run out of space to back up to get FOV or a two shot. This lens a classic photographer journalist's 35mm FOV is a prayer answered, order goes in the AM, in time for new project that starts June.
 
This 17.5 sure is purty! I have it covered with the Oly 11-22 but it would sit mighty nice between the 25mm Voightlander and the slrMagic 12mm. I could sell the Oly which is pretty expensive. I'm loving these Voitlander lenses on the AF100 and GH2. I'm investing in ZFs, I already have the 85 now which is lovely, need the 35 1.4

With all this investment in 4/3 glass I hope panny keeps it coming, improving and maybe in a couple of years getting some 4:2:2 AVC-Intra. As long as we can get these type lenses shooting 4/3 works great for me.
