Hey all,

so i got this old vivitar auto thyristor 225 flash from my dad from his film SLR days. It fits on the top mount and works perfectly (albeit i know nothing about external flashes in general so i'm still figuring it out). However, i googled it, and i came upon a forum where some guy said "I believe the Vivitar 225 has a very high sync voltage (177v), which may damage modern electronic cameras"

is that true? even if i have batteries in the flash?

thanks,

jordan

Totally true. Maybe not now, or soon, but it's a very real possibility. This has been discussed on innumerable forums that follow the Strobist ethos. Again, it's not a certainty, but I'd probably argue against it. Put it on a flash bracket and use a PC sync cord and you're safe, though!
