Vision3 50d super 8 shot.

So cool. Really makes me want to get a Beaulieu 4008. How much footage did you end up shooting, if you don't mind me asking?

Wow looks great! Looking at that quality just imagine you are only seeing 1/4 of the image of a super16mm shot- that stock on super16 with a quality scan has to be ridiculous. Thanks for sharing!

Lovely stuff! Who says film is dead?

Basically six things limit the use of film now. - money, effort, ignorance, time, skill, bragging rights for gear heads.

Notice that image quality is most definitely not on that list. Just imagine for a moment what that would look like on 65mm.

Here is a fashion shot with 50d Vision 3 Super 8. The telecine was done by Ochoypico, the camera used my Beaulieu 4008 ZM2.

Wow. That is some insanely gorgeous footage. Beautiful model too. :D Really has an almost magical look to it. I'd love to shoot some Super 8mm or Super 16mm. Is it at all feasible to get some darkroom equipment and create a motion picture film darkroom to process and develop your own film to cut down on costs? I'd love to shoot on film, but the costs to process, develop and transfer just turn me off. It's very unfortunate, because I love the look and would love to shoot film just to try it out.

HDSLR have more resolution than s8, best color NEVER as Vision3, one must know what is said my friend.

So are you agreeing about the resolution[super 8 is not HD]But not the colour ! modern video colour has exceeded super 8,but colour is all super 8 has left not its resolution cleanness or cost.

A good scan with Vision3 s8 and shot with a tight and good lens camera has more resolution than any SD camera, for Vision 3 is superior to all the HDSLR. In this topic I know a little because I used to work my 7d, 5d, GH2, Gh3, BlackMagik ...

Well i dont care what cameras you have used.Standard 16mm is also not HD,look at any standard 16mm filmed series or film on an HD channel,i have commercial Blu Rays shot on 16mm they are no way HD.If you are saying the film in this thread is sharper than the cameras you mention you must have stuck sellotape on their lenses.

Although video has surpassed film in resolution, most of the digital footage I see online doesn't match the look and feel of this footage. Yes, you can add grain and scratches and stretch color this way and that. But few, if any, digital videos I've seen look seem to have the smoothness of tones that this footage has.

I've presented a challenge within another thread, http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?326143-Can-your-camera-match-Super-8-film, using this video. It will probably just end up annoying people, but I really hope it generates some worthy contenders or at least renews some respect for film's capabilities.

With a good scan, super 8 has about the resolution of 720p. Super 16 has about the resolution of Full HD, and super 35 has about the resolution of 2.5-2.8K. 4K digital resolves more detail than s35 film that's true. I've shot film for about 20 years and digital for ages and know how they compare and how much they resolve.

In terms of colour, film records all the colour information, real gradients and true representation of life. You cannot compare 8 bit 4:2:0 H.264 DSLR colours to film, whether s8, s16, or s35. You don't get banding, artificial colours and artefacts with film. From my experience film colour is about the same as 12/14/16 bit 4:4:4 raw uncompressed digital colour, so to get true colours you need these high-end digital formats.

This above footage is more like 720p 14/16 bit 4:4:4 raw (which is not really available in digital), that's why the colour looks that stunning. Of course the credit goes to the shooter too.

That film has its charm in its own way,but if those colours are stunning and true life acurate i need an eye test,i stand by saying the resolution is SD,i put the download in a mixture with some of my HD digital and mini DV material, the super 8 was lower resolution than mini dv.
The BBC wont allow super 16 but what do they know.

I really want to shoot some Super8 but costs stop me. I am willing to pay the 30 to 40 EURO for a cartridge, but for me shipping is also 30 to 40 EURO and I can't afford to buy a large batch to circumvent that shipping cost, making playing around with film rather expensive. At least my medium format still film shipping is low.

Film photography has taught me things digital never have and never could do either. I can only imagine what motion film could teach me. Hopefully I get a chance before it is all gone.
