My idea is that you can film at what aspect ratio you want, e.g. 2.35:1, and on the screen itself, there is a box around other aspect ratios, e.g. 16:9, so you when you compose your picture, you know what will be in the VHS edition, or TV edition, when they crop it; therefore you won't lose anything important in the crop.
