Vintage Lenses

Interesting, I have shot a lot of stuff with mine and have never notice the green tint you speak of. but then again there are different versons of leica R. All I can say is that the ones I have are warm and definitely have no green tint to them, but that's not to say that some don't have this issue. I have just never seen it in mine.

It is a matter of glass and coatings. They certainly change through the years so it is entirely possible for the same lens model built in different years to exhibit different color.
You can actually see the green tint in the couple of shots from the Summilux 80 that've linked in a previous post. Note the beige skin tones.
I don't think it is an issue, it adds to the character of the lenses (and reminds me of Ektacolor, which I like). :)

This will only be an issue if you mix the Leicas with, say, Zeiss in a shoot. But this is true for any two unmatched lenses.
Well, if you always white balance manually when changing lenses you can mix any lenses. I'd rather have color matched sets though. This allows for more freedom when playing with white balance for specific in-camera color effects.

I have been seen coming.

The 43-86 that was allegedly mint has fungus and won't zoom smoothly. I have not received my Vivitar and have not received any reply to emails or messages left.

I bought from a shop hoping that I would avoid the "ebay" experience.

If the situation is not resolved amicably I'll publicise the person involved so no one else gets caught. Apparently this chap has "previous" but I only found that out after the fact. Oops.

So I'm going to try Ebay and get some older Nikkor glass from people who accept returns. Wish me luck!

I'm not sure whether i'm allowed to recommend on here but there's a shop up in scotland called ffordes and they seem a nice bunch. They can have some interesting stuff there. But ebay is okay, mostly!

cheers

Cheers Paul.

I shall look them up.

Despite the 43-86 not being mint it has fast become my favourite lens. The image is very (very) soft, lacks contrast but has a wonderful nostalgic quality to it and will flare at anything. It's easy to see why this lens was considered Nikon's worst ever lens (for photography) but in the right circumstances it's a joy. Pics to follow.

Does anyone know of similarly poor lenses with a more usable range? Something in the 28-135 range and preferably Nikon fitting. That might be a tough ask as it appears Nikon have been putting out fabulous glass for decades and the 43-86 was a last job on Friday. Any suggestions welcomed.

One lens i've been dying to try out on a video camera is the Super Farron 78mm f0.87 (t1.0). A poor man's noctulix more or less... found on Ebay for 1200$ sometimes.
Don't get me wrong, it's a great lens! It was designed by Albrecht Tronnier, the same guy who worked on the Zeiss Ultrons and Zeiss Planars. It was even used by NASA and the military. It easily outperforms the Noctulix f1 in terms of sharpness and contrast for only 1/5th of the price!

Only downside is its weight, size. It's nearly 3 times the size of the Noctulix.
Mounted on an aps-c sensor, it'll turn into a 120mm t1.0 lens....
