Vimeo vs. Exposure Room

Interesting and timely thread; I've been very frustrated with Vimeo for several months. The forum discussion boards are filled with user complaints and surly staff responses.

I have been trying to decide if jumping to ExposureRoom or blip.tv or one of the other many sites would be better or just be frustrating in other ways. In the end I think I would rather be frustrated for free than pay $60 per year to Vimeo to be frustrated.

I posted more than one video on vimeo and then embeded one video at another site, but vimeo wants to play all the videos on the embedded site. Did I miss something?

has anyone had an issue with embedding their videos, ie: plagiarism and disrespectful use of? also, i've noticed that these sites allow you(one) to download the original(source) video in order to bypass the site's compression(transcoding). are your clients really taking the time to download these videos in order to evaluate your work?

thanks in advance.

what i meant was; is anyone having problems with other people embedding and/or downloading their original videos? has anyone found that people have been stealing/plagiarizing their work. i see the point for allowing me to embed my own videos, but why would you allow others to embed? kinda of the same thing with downloading of original. i'm assuming someone can literally download and save our videos from these sites. right?

what are your thoughts on this subject?

Michael, my thoughts on allowing others to embed or download my videos are that it's good for me. All my videos have my name on them, and have me showing demoing some product. So it's not like someone could actually steal my work, as my work is meant to be spread around. I have also set the preference for my work to be copyright free for the commons. So I am actually allowing it to be used in other works. It's not like I am trying to sell these videos. I'm just trying to spread my seed as it were. So if someone uses my video they are actually working for me. My recent Mini Shot Shootout has been loaded 0ver 45,000 tomes in a 3 day period! That's because cinima5D and others picked it up ad put it on their site. If I did not allow embeds, I would be lucky to get 1,000 loads, because I usually just post stuff on 2 or 3 forums, and move on.

If you are creating art I can see that it would be a different story. Still, if you are small time like most of us are, it may not hurt to allow embedding of something to help spread your stuff around. Just don't put the most precious stuff up on Vimeo. Use it as an advert for you, and give small pieces away, then direct users to YOUR store where they can purchase the full blown product - whatever that may be.
