Vimeo Plus...stats are depressing.

I held out, until just a few days ago. I now have a Vimeo Plus account, and in viewing my FULL stats on some of my videos, the first thing i notice is the number of "plays" vs. the number of "finishes" is horribly depressing. noone seems to watch anything until the end.

i guess i have work to do.

the extra stats are cool, because i didn't know where members who watch my videos are from, so it's cool to see people in Bangladesh(for example) watching my stuff.

but the number of people who click play, and the number of people who watch the whole video...ouch. very eye-opening.:undecided well, i shouldn't be surprised...i make glorified home movies....eww.

Same here. I tell myself that the viewers just click on my next video just before the fade to black at the end is finished.

ha!...told myself the same thing one time. i think it's at the :10 mark in reality...for me anyway. but there's hope.

Sorry to ruin your egos completely, but loads are just embeds or page loads (thumbnail shows in player window), not someone clicking on the video play button. So your stats are worst than you thought... they didn't even succumb to clicking on the button .....hahaha

Sorry guys.

well, there's "Loads" and "Plays", right?...embed loads, and people who click "Play"...thought they were two different things.

and yes, max...i subscribe to the ADD notion. i wanna think my videos are worth more than :10 of someone's time. i think my longest video on Vimeo is around 6:00. the rest are less than 4. pathetic. ahh well.

and ram...i have no ego. i don't think you meant it as such....i just didn't know the stats until they were available to me. i'm just thinking differently as to what i upload there now. i want to make videos that people want to watch all the way through, and while that may be a pipe dream, i'll atleast try.

and for what it's worth Ram....i have actually watched every single video you have made available...all the way thru. not that i expect you to reciprocate...i'm just not someone who hits "stop" very often.

Chris, don't worry my stats are a disappointment too. The last one i posted is a shocker "Hamilton Is Cup"

1653 plays, 3870 loads and 437 finishes ....arghhhhhh. But it is 44mins long, can't expect the punters to spend that much time glued to a PC.

I'm only having a fun shot at you and i have watched most of yours, you hooked me with those Daughter vids, reminds me when my own was that young some 20odd years ago.

When your intenet connection is slow you dont want to waste time waiting for something that might turn out to be at the most: just plain average !
No I haven't watch your videos , so I'm not implying anything.

Here are few ideas that might help us all out !:

A smart title might work
A nice story like description might work
A good thumbnail might work
Using American- English so that almost everybody could understand your videos, might work
Not uploading in HD might work

Things that will work:
Naked women will work !
Half Naked women will work !
Women talking about being naked will work !
you get the idea !

So if I have not made you feel better please dont watch my videos till the end :)

Well, Everts, sometimes i do think of naked women when making a video (without one in it). Should that work?

For what it's worth I rarely finish watching online, but I do download full quality and give things a full viewing.

I also prefer to download and watch it at my leisure. When online, if it ain't movin', I am...

If there is more than 2-3 seconds of titles, I immediately click away. Best to put titles over footage.

Also, for a show reel, please, please, PLEASE put your best work first. All of it. (And cut as much of the rest as you can stand.)

I know this thread is about vimeo but I thought some might like to know about a feature Youtube has called "hot spots". Basically it's a graph that lets you know what parts of your videos are getting the most attention. I find it very interesting and it allows me to get feedback on what people like and what causes people to lose interest.

Also if getting lots of views is your goal I don't think anything beats YouTube! My Vimeo account has maybe 800 views total! my video "Best Track Day LVMS" only has 171 views on Vimeo. That same video put up at the same time on Youtube has over 1,100 views! (And I think most of the Vimeo views are from people wanting to see the difference in quality from VC-1 VS H.264).

one of my videos on YouTube has gone semi-viral nearing 16,000 views, it averages 150 views a day and the video is nothing special.

I know Vimeo has a different audience and that's cool but no reason to not also put your videos on Youtube. You just got to avoid using copy-written music (especially from WMG). But might as well start getting use to that now because I can't imagine Vimeo will be immune forever from the record companies wrath.

I'm not really sure why this part is low, maybe because the rest is soooooo good :)

This video gets tons of hits for being just average, it's crazy. The graph makes perfect sense to me.

This video was simply to show the different modes the GoPro HD has. The peak is R5 mode. After that I just kept it rolling so this graph also makes perfect sense.
