Here is my video entry for The Story Beyond the Still vimeo contest.

First time ever to work with script, acting, and story line. I have learned a great deal of the importance of pro-production preparation. Not everything went smoothly and not everything turned out great. But we all had fun. I had a blast getting this video ready.

If you have not yet, you still have a couple days to submit one. Hope to see many entries done with GH1.

I liked it.

I am an amateur, but a couple things stood out that differentiate your vid from something that is perhaps more 'pro' (IMHO).

1. Color grading - I dunno if it was graded but it had a very 'straight from camera' color palette.

2. A few times the actors said their line in what was, I imagine, verbatim per the script. Two
examples: "She is special" "... others do not know about her" - both of these sounded awkward and should have been "she's special" and "others don't know about her".

I the above and....

3. from :53 -1:00 you not only see the boom pole...you see the operator.
4. watch the audio sync...it's off. (1:40ish)
5. there's some weird audio phasing (2:40)
6. last shot was REALLY long (or maybe it has to be?)

Other than those nit-picks...great job!

Thanks for the comment. I always get conflcting thoughts when color grading. I like the look of heavily color graded footages but at the same time I want to preserve more natural colors of the footage. I really have to think about this.

Yup, the script writing is not my forte and all the acting talents are my co-workers. I guess that combination isn't too good. Ha ha.

Thank you for your comment, ZazaCast.

I am aware of the boom pole and the operator. It was my first directing and my planning wasn't as thorough as I thought when the shoot started. At that moment, I was busy paying attention to so many different things, I really couldn't catch all of them. It was a great learning experience though.

Speaking of audio, what is the best solution? I used zoom h4, older model of h4n, and it goes constantly out of sync with video.

I feel you... I'm a one-man-band too...it is crazy trying to do everything yourself!

Search the forum, there have been a bunch of threads on the sync issues and how to resolve them. Check the 'Audio' boards. If I can find one, I'll post a link here.

Update:
This is what a bunch of people are using.
