viewfinder side crop setting?

When viewing in the viewfinder, I have black bars on the side of the image. (not the LCD)
Isn't there a setting that will allow the image to fill the viewfinder screen?

shooting in HD.

I think I changed a setting and cannot figure out how to fix it. I cant seem to find a fix in the manual or Barry's book.

Can't find anything on the search function of this forum either.

Don't have a camera nearby, but look at the "downcon mode" function in the av in/out menu, that might be what you need.

yeah, checked, seemed logical but that didn't change it.
