Viewfinder for canon 5D2

Hey,
I have a 5D2 and redrock micro DSLR base plate. I'm looking for a viewfinder attachment to my camera. So far I found LCDVF and the famous z finders. I would love to go with zacuto but their new V2 has to have some sort of baseplate to attach it to and that messes up my whole rig. I like how I can just simply attach the LCDVF and go on. 2 things though. Philip Bloom in his review said that magnets are not good for cameras. Is that true? if LCDVF a safe product to buy? money is not a concern for me and I dont want any of these products to mess up my camera. 2nd, zacuto says that all LCD viewfinders are bad for the LCD when the sun shines directly at it. I will be doing a lot of outdoor shooting so that might become an issue? I like the Z-finder junior but it doesn't have the eye cup to prevent the sun getting into the lens itself.

What would you recommend to me? are there any other good viewfinders for 5D? can I attach the V2 pro somehow to my 5D without that base plate?
thx in advance,
Marek

I went the way of the hoodman , then the Z-finder . I found that the hoodman was low cost item for a reason . Go all the way and your eyes will thank you for it . I cant rave enough about the Z-finder . As for the base plate fear not it is an easty work around fo i too am a redrock boy from way back and although Zacuto would not admit it thay work well together .
Good luck and i will post a couple of photos of my rig in the comming days .

thx mate, looking forward to your pics! also, what sort of "work around" do you mean? does the z-finder pro somehow attaches to the camera without that zacuto base plate?
thx in advance

The previous version of the z-finder comes with a frame that has adhesive. It sticks to the camera. The new one has the same thing, except it has threads for the knobs on the baseplate. You can still attach it to the camera I think. If not, you can buy the old-style mounting frame for 10 bucks (about). Go for it!

BTW, I had the same hoodman revelation. I returned it when I used it side by side with a z-finder. Zacuto wins, hands down.

Since I have a battery grip I orederd the new 2.5 with the jr. baseplate. It connects in between the battery grip and the camera and holds the z-finder on that way. Hopefully when it gets here it all plays out like I'm thinking.

you don't actually have to use the bottom base plate on the new Z-finder. You can still use the old style adhesive bracket just fine. Remarkably, it costs a reasonable $6. I would've thought that Zacuto would've charged $30 for the thing.

I have both. The LCDVF is comfortable, but does not have the magnification of the Z-finder, which is more helpful. It is also not as solidly built as the Z. You can still use adhesive frames for the Z if you want to.
