viewfinder dead?

If there is a simple solution it would be great , if not its off to the repair shop before the next shoot.
I just got a newish (one month old) hvx200 and the viewfinder appears to be dead. Is there something I'm missing in the menus ? Also is this a known problem? I've searched the net and found nothing.

cheers,

Do you get no image at all, or only when the LCD is open? There is an option in the DISPLAY SETUP menu called EVF MODE to turn off the viewfinder when the LCD is open.

When you close the flip-out lcd does the viewfinder work? If so, there's a menu item you can change, I think its "EVF" which can be set to on or off.

hey guys,
I get no image even if I power the camera with the lcd closed, which would force the viewfinder, I would, think to powerup.............hmmmmm.
now, how long to fix ? lots of work to do and would hate to go back to HDV

Another possibility is that whoever owned / used the camera before had a 35mm adapter and broke the LCD switch by sticking a foreign object into it in an attempt to flip the display. I'm not sure that the LCD open / rotation detection are handled by the same switch, but it is possible.

For repairs, you can contact Panasonic here or go to an authorized repair center like Spec-Comm or Full Compass. If the camera is not gray-market and really not that old, there is a chance that this will be covered under warranty.

Ha! THoff I was going to suggest someone broke it trying the flip trick, maybe the ribon cable's damaged.

Hello,

I would use a #00 Philips screw driver and remove the plastic cover on the side opposite of the side with the speaker. There are a total of three screws. There should be two ribbons. One on the top and one on the bottom of a vertical circuit card. The top one (brown) is the VF ribbon. See if it's plugged in the whole way or if it's plugged in but the latch on the connector needs snapped down. There is a good chance that this is the problem. If this isn't the issue, let me know and we can take a look at it for you.
