IDX/JVC Promo-It Starts!

Hey all.
I was just infomed on dvinfo.com that JVC never received my promo kit. That was all original stuff I sent.

The response I got was "I suggest that all claims for free goods be sent by 2 day or 1 day air, UPS or FedEX - something you can track."

That does me no good now. No offer for a solution, just a smack in the face. Here yesterday I was touting JVC to everyone as a company that cares about the professional video market that is buying their gear, and now this?

Can anyone offer me any help before I ship this camera back to JVC?

This is frustrating. If I'm just hitting the queue for the batteries, I may not see them for a month or so. I was a fool to fall for this promo. It's one thing to have say, "Buy a JVC HD100 before the end of March and receive 10 free HDV Tapes", but a battery system is a little more necessary. It's not like it would be a good idea to go out and buy one in the meantime and then have two. I only have one camera. I'm just a small little indie movie maker trying to carve my way out. I guess if you're not big, you don't hit the radar.

Sorry for the rant. I'm just frustrated. I have a $5500 paperweight now, that looks good sitting in a bag on my floor.

Well I hear you and I've been frustrated with how the promo was handled. However, like all promos and written on the certificate - "Allow 6-8 weeks for processing". It's not that part that bugged me but how long it takes just to get the stupid certificate in the first place.

It's really not fair or smart to expect a promo to come along and save your production. That being said, there is no reason for it to take that long.

I understand what you're saying here. I'm sure there are some people out there that can afford to go out and buy an Anton system while they wait for the IDX. Or load up on multiple little batteries in the meantime. I'm not one of those. I only need one battery kit, not several. So to sit around and wait for something that is CRUCIAL to the process of using the camera is just frustrating.

Chill, chill. It You've gone beyond rant into whining mode.

First it was plain dumb of you to not overnight your package, especially if you wanted to get a speedy return and obviously to track the irreplaceable original materials.

Second, if you needed extra juice while waiting for your free IDX system then you could have done what we and others did...spend $60 and get a Power 2000 battery as a second while waiting.

The IDX promo is about as good an offer as you're going to see from any camera maker. Have you seen anyone, Panasonic, Canon...do anything like it?

It's a great system and it's FREE.

It only took 2 weeks to get our IDX package after sending out package (overnight).
Instead of going on and on about it, why don't you call 800-JVC-JVC5. That's the number for the Perfect Experience service.

JVC is the best customer support I've dealt with in the tech biz and we deal with a lot of them.

Take responsibility for your own screw up. THey did nothing wrong and if they've just recieved it it certainly isn't their fault. You'll probably see it withinn 2 weeks now and that's about as good as it gets.
They're actually doing a remarkable job with this promo.

I'm happy that you can just go out and purchase stuff you'll never use again. I don't have the resources that you have. And that's great that you do. I'm not knocking you for that. I went into severe debt to attempt what I'm doing, and I'm sorry I'm "whining" to you.

Nowhere in my post did I name call anyone. I was simply voicing a frustration of mine, which others have done on other issues without having someone belittle them, their knowledge, or the resources they have.

Thanks for your time.

You voiced your frustration, and then did again and again.
That's not necessary.
We're herr to share information.
You shared your frustration...no need to rkeep doing so, especially when JVC didn't do anything wrong but you certainly did if you were in a hurry.
You say things like, "I was fool to fall for this promo".
You didn't fall for anything, it's great offer and it is shipping faster than anyone expected.
The issue isn't with JVC, they're doing a good job getting these out (have you ever heard of a thrid party offer like this that doesn't stipulate at least 4-6 weeks, often 6-8 weeks?).
As I said, ours arrrived in two weeks after overnighting the info.
My point about getting another battery was from a professional standpoint not a "wasting money" comment.
If you need to produce something and can't sproing for $60 to get it done then I guess you just wait for the IDX.
What if there was no IDX offer...you'd have to go out and buy a bunch of small capacity batteries.
There's really no need to crap all over a really good deal.

You both need to take a step back. This board can't turn into what others have in the past; a venue for personal attacks irrespective of right or wrong. It's about working together to fix problems if we can for others and reserving our judgements. You both have said what you have to say from the heart so now let's fix the problem. You both are valuable contributors to this board so please take a breath.

Carcaridon, you're in Orange County. I'll fly an IDX set up down to you tomorrow if you want but you need to replace it with yours when it arrives. I have a couple of brand new set ups on the shelf here and I'll bear the risk and the expense of the fuel etc if I know you're going to return the new set up you receive, God knows when, to me when you get it.

Jimagin, please understand his position. When you've got deadlines to hit, frustration takes over and, well, read some of my rantrs on this Board and we have the resources to get around them. It's terrifically frustrating to have a company not meet your expectations, real or imagined. Add to that the pressures of shooting schedules and the like and people express their frustrations in different ways. In short, IMO we all should try to see both sides. Lord knows I've had my share of "Quit whining!" episodes with people complaining but I've always regretted it because in the end it never solved anything. Yes, Carcaridon should have sent it out FedEx O/N especially considering all the problems articulated on this board but water under the bridge. Everyone on this Board can do it on their own but isn't it great to have others here we can rely on to listen and then act if we can?

So Carcaridon, what say you. If you need these, I have to fly to Las Vegas tomorrow for some establishing shots and can meet you at Signature Air at John Wayne Airport on the way. Let me know if that works for you. If it doesn't, THEN quit whining because we've given you a way out and it's up to you whether or not you want to take it !!! ;-)

My applologies to anyone that I offended during my rant. If what I said was uncalled for, I appologize.

Jim. Please understand, I'm just a simple indie movie maker. I don't have a super large company that can expense a ton of stuff. I don't mean to attack anyone. I was just trying to vent and was hoping for a little bit of "Hey, don't worry. It will get there" attitude.

If I'd have known that I could have overnighted the package, I would have. I'm new to all this, and will learn from my mistakes. I've never done a "giveaway" of this magnitude before. I'm trying to learn, and have never owned a camera like this.

Jonathan. Thank you for the kind offer. You're an awesome person to help out people like you do. Unfortunately I have to be up in LA early tomorrow morning. Well, early for me. But if my deadlines start looming above me, I may check back with you if it's ok.

Thanks for the support. I'll keep learning....... :)

I myself am not really angry with the situation but I am rather frustrated since I have a few weddings that I shoot in the middle of March. Other then that I can just tape into a wall socket and be fine. So I really hope i receive the kit before then. If it comes down to it, I'm sure I can run an extension cord to my camera at the wedding but this is very unprofessional and would not want any member of the wedding to trip. Oh well, I am really not going to stress out about it.

No problem Carc....
I pretty much was saying , "hey don't worry it will get there soon".
I also wanted to give JVC the kudos they deserve for being very responsive to every issue I'm aware of with the HD100.
In my expereince they've been great and deserve credit for that.

It's OK St James, no punches thrown..none landed.
I don't want to see this place turn into a company bashing site either, and that's exactly where this thread was going.
Of course I understand frustration, but you can't just blame JVC because your anxious and frustrated.
It's important that reps from the company feel welcome here and contribute here as they do at dvinfo.
If I'm a representative of a company, I'm going to keep clear of a place that's slamming my company needlesly.
We all do better with reasonable discussion between users and input from the companies involved.
And again, my experience with JVC regarding the IDX and SSE has been great.

I have to say. Carl Hicks has been stellar in what he's done for me so far. At least he pointed out what happened. That's really good of him to help me out. Especially after my freak out.

"St. James". I love that, Jim. I don't deserve it but I love it. I simply want to see good people stay good people here on the board We're it. Look a the industry. It's deplorable with the narcissistic, me-me-me attitude i the entertainment capital of the world. Don't do that. It robs me of of the one selfish thing I have left; giving. You can't imagine what you all do for me. You may think it's totaly selfless but its the opposite. No one gave Joyce and me a hand from 91 to 96 when we didn't know where our next meal was coming from and we swore we'd always be there for those who needed help. So reaching out helps me too. So for the few of you who think that's silly, go ahead; laugh The rest of us will live in bliss.

LA is only a 10 minute plane ride away. I can meet you at Signature Van Nuys at Burbank if you still need the battery pack. Believe me, to help you out would truly be my pleasure, Carcar.

I almost forgot. I need to tell you that, with all the hang up issues and brouhaha over the IDX debacle, believe me, JVC and IDX and alot of other companies are paying very, very close attention to this and other boards. We're their bread and butter so to speak; the one-off purchasers who influence other one-offs through word of mouth advertising. The greatest favor Amanda or whatever her name was at IDX could have done was to hang up on me (did I tell you it was TWICE?) and then to, as I hear it, lie to her superiors accusing me of being verbally abusive and calling her a "Bit@#" not knowing that my cell was on speaker and 20-some people were in the vicinity and listening in.

We influence buying and that's the bottom line so as long as this board stays professional and refrains from personal attack as long as corporate America knows that we are a unified body, like those silvery fish that swim en masse and turn en masse seemingly without communication in clouds of millions, (see Jaque Custeau) we have the power to influence and corporate America WILL listen.

Don't think that we got JVC's attention and 5 IDX systems overnight because we we're a big production company. We're a small entity with a few shows under our belt but we're honest and reflect what's right with the independent industry. Speak, do, act in unison without chinks in the armour and they'll listen because we buy...individually and collectively because we communicate and you can't break up Jared's vision. JVC is a great company with a great product. IDX...as my friend would say, ummmmmmm, not so much. Parenthetically, do you know that no one from there has so much has even called to apologize...not accept blame or affix responsibility but just to say, "Hey, sorry for the problem. The customer's not always right but does deserve the benefit of the doubt so let's put this behind us and go on. So what do you think of our system and how can we make it better fit your field needs." That's what really ticks me off and should tick you off also. It's as if they're saying, "Screw you, buddy. We don't need you and right and wrong doesn't matter." And that's what's gotten this country that I love so dearly into the fix it's in...in oil...in gas...in customer service from Enron to the corner store. Oops, OK, I'm off the soap box but someone needed to say it. So, in conclusion, here it goes. "Wake up corporate America. We matter; individually and collectively and you better start paying attention. JVC did and it's gotten people like Jimagine almost going to blows defending your actions. So IDX...take a pill and take a page from the JVC book of customer service. We never asked nor did we receive free cameras or power supplies. We bought 5 of them with another order for 5 more pending. IDX..two words for you; can you spell A-n-t-o-n-B-a-u-e-r? Screw your free stuff. There's no such thing as free. We'll give it away."

There. Done now!

I do have to say if JVC is listening. I bought my HD100 soley on the word of mouth of the product coming from this board and dvinfo.net. If not for these boards, I would have gone with the competition.

So Jonathan is right. This board does have the power.

As for the offer. I'm good for this weekend. The tests that I need to do the tiny JVC battery will work out for. If this grows until another weekend, I might have to hit you up for that offer.

Again. I really appreciate it. I love your attitude of helping out those in need. I was in the music production "business" for 6 years. When I say "business," I mean I did music production and recording free of charge for local bands that couldn't afford it on their own. From my music and band background I had amased a decent pro tools rig and could turn out very good music demos. There are a lot of bands out there that are great, but just don't have the money or knowhow to get heard. I tried to do what I could to help out. I plan on doing this same thing with music videos. So I know where you're coming from. It would be a nicer world if we'd all just step a little to the right or left and help the other guy.

Cheers to you and all that do that.

Keep doin' what you're doin', Heath. The Guy that really matter is listening. In the end, the social structure will change dramatically and then woe be the ones who say, "But I didn't know" for the response will be, "Then you weren't listening."

jlames, A lot of people read these boards and not respond but I must say that it is incredably uplifting to see that there are still people in this world that can be such a positive influence by the kind acts you stow upon others. I am about to embark in a new challenge in my life, Selling my house here in Phoenix and taking a chance to start a video business in San Fransisco. The advise you give helps me make sure that I am on track with the latest equipment and helps with purchasing decisions.
I too will purchase the JVC camera in the coming months. Me and my wife are very excited to start this endevor. Next week we'll be in L.A. for the videomaker expo and the HD expo and plan on stoping by EVS.
I hope most companies realize how important these boards are for people making purchase decisions. I will be spending a lot of money to start my business and I wouldn't spend one dime without doing research on these boards.
Jlames I hope to get the pleasure to meet you someday and thanks for uplifting my spirits on this friday evening.

Joe Bowey, 42 and starting new.

Joe Bowey- Thank you. It's simply my selfish lot in life. Some people have drugs, alcohol, reality shows; some have thir professions or charity endeavors or the church through which they find fulfilment. I have helping others. Sounds corney I know but cest la vie. I've been 42 and 32 and 22 and starting over. If we don't take the time to help those starting out, irrespective of age, to what genuine good have we put all of those hours spent acquiring knowledge, insight and experience. For me and many, especially on this Board, true fulfillment is found in passing it on to others. This is why no matter what, I'll owe a debt of gratitude to Jared for putting this Board together. Anyway, enough philosophy.

I have a friend in Phoenix; an exceedingly trustworthy friend who's been in the real estate industry there for more than 40 years. He typically handles only multi-million dollar deals however I'd be happy to put a call in to him for you... not to be your agent but simply to guide you along so you don't make any mistakes. PM me your contact info like e-mail and phone and I'll give you a hand in any way I can. And thanks again for the compliment. Not many people take the time to say that. In fact, I can think of only a few in the past I don't know how long and they all came from this board.
