View AVC footage on Mac without transcoding?

Hello --

I work with people doing single-person crew documentary shooting, who are off in the field for months at a time. Saving disk space (at least before transcoding) is one of the attractive features of the HMC150 over the HVX200, which we're currently using.

Is it possible to view AVC footage on a MacBook while in the field, without having to transcode it? I know that the AVCCAM Viewer is PC-only. Is there any other way simply to review footage without transcoding?

thanks
Ernst

I should point out that I'm aware that it must be transcoded to bring it into FCP, but what I want to do is just view the footage, without editing.

thanks!

I check our footage on FCP by using the Log and Transfer window, viewing it but not transferring it. I plug the SD Card into a card reader and plug that into our MBP works great. I have tried the VLC viewer in a PC but I don't think that PC has the horsepower to it work.

There's another codec someone mentioned that works great. Core...something? Darn, I forget. It's a windows plugin that hardware-accelerates WMP to natively accept .mts files from the HMC150. Really amazing, it works great. Search around for it?

BEST WAY TO USE AVCHD ON MAC IS TO IMPORT IT USING **** IMOVIE **

I don't own an HMC150 but i use to have an HG20 - import using imovie converts the footage into quicktime -

F fcp for importting.

I recently had to work with another guy who was shooting second camera, and he was using something on a mac to view it.

I believe it was VLC.

On a PC, I use core codec, which I believe also works for mac.
