Hello all.

I'm wondering how many of you are editing your DVCPRO HD media from a raid array and what kind of raid. Raid 0, 1, 5. Software raid or hardware raid?

I'll be editing in Premiere Pro CS4 and their system requirements suggest raid for HD. My current build is:

Vista 64
P4 duel core 3.0GHz
6GB RAM
Os drive C: WD 80GB sataII
Video drive E: WD 500GB 32mb cache sataII
Scratch drive D: WD 250GB 16mb cache sataII

Would love to hear what others are running on and their thoughts.

Thanks.

I use a Raid...Raid 5. Caldigit HD One. Then I have a RAID 1 where I back up all of my original MXF files.

Thanks Shane, I'll check Caldigit out. Does anyone work off of a home made raid? I was looking at striping my own raid 5. Would this be a bad idea?

Shane, my hat is off. The "Popsicle" raid is probably the best DIY computer mod I have ever seen. Maybe only second to a mod I saw online somewhere where a man built his computer tower inside an aquarium. I have so many spare parts for that set-up here at the house as well. I enjoyed your tutorials and your sense of humor. I was actually looking at building a set-up just like your "Dark Tower". I'm glad you showed how to rig a power supply to power on without a motherboard. That's the only thing that was stopping me. lol The Caldigit drives are very nice, but well out of my price range. I think I'm going to go back to building my own "Dark Tower" in a raid 0 like yourself and using a couple of external drives as back up.
