Video problems...

Went to test out the video functions on my new 60D today at the Pasadena Chalk Fest. Had this weird issue with ghosting images and what looked almost like split frames. I shot 108024p. See below:

I've never shot video with a DSLR before so I'm just doing something remarkably dumb. Is it because I'm using too high a shutter speed? Is it the anti-vibration in the lens? Is it the codec? Is it an issue with Avid since I have it on a 24p timeline?

Also, is there some FAQ that gives all the basic tips one needs to shoot with the Canon DSLR (I've already checked out all the sticky threads on this board)? Something that can tell me what not to do (like what ISO settings are bad)?

did you use an filter in front of the lens? ND/polarizer
I've got the same effect with an nd filter that wasn't tightend enough.

No, that looks like frame blending, not a filter issue. Notice how the drummer's hand is mixed between his next movement and this one.
Is the original file like that? Open the raw .mov in a player (Quicktime, VLC, etc) and freeze frame to see if it is still there.

My guess is that Avid is doing this to it, likely to conform frame rates. Are you sure the timeline and video source match exactly? Maybe you accidentally shot the video in NTSC 30? Is every frame like this, or only now and then? There could also be a difference between 24 frames per second exactly and the frame rate 24p uses, which is actually IVTC at 23.976fps.

Thanks Gilden. I thought of the same thing right before I read your post. It turned out I had accidentally set Avid to 24 instead of 23.976.

Thanks for the help.
