i would like to know if video quality on the G3 is almost as good as the gh2 (it has the same video engine) or is it really crippled down to separate the G series from the GH series ?

thanks

It looks like it lacks the 24mbps mode the gh2 has.

about the bitrate of 17mb/s for the g3 vs 24mb/s for the gh2 will that be visible on the maximum bitrate of 6mb/s in vimeo ?

it would be interesting to see a g3 vs gh2 video comparison as it was often done for 60d vs gh2, because even with the low bitrates of youtube and vimeo (3 and 6mb/s) we can clearly see the difference of image between the 60d and the gh2 in these comparatives videos.

You can't compare bitrates among websites and cameras like that. The cameras use AVCHD, an acquisition codec, and the websites use Flash and/or H.264, which use different schemes of reaching the same ends. It's not about the bitrate of the final delivery; TV can be as little as 8-15 Mbps, but that's MPEG-2, and video shot with the unhacked GH1's 17 Mbps AVCHD looks horrible, even at TV's 15 Mbps MPEG-2.

your are correct, my mistake, so let me rephrase my question : has someone seen any visible difference in video quality from a 1080p video (gh2 vs g3) on a computer screen after the video have been transcoded by vimeo or youtube (as we can clearly see in the 60d vs gh2 comparison such as this one : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r6bzQfZ8OCQ

also are there some video shooting options or settings that are present in the gh2 and missing on the g3 ? (appart from the 17mb/s vs 24mb/s and 1080-60i vs 1080-24p, by the way the 60i vs 24p will only be visible on a tv but not on a computer screen is it correct ? )

i am suspicious about panasonic protecting the sales of the gh2 against the g3 that is $300 cheaper by voluntarily crippling down the 1080p video on the g3 (it can only come from a software crippling down as the newer sensor is better on the g3 and the 3 core video engine is the same ... or are they really the same ?).
