Video in on HVX

Hey all,

I am working on a project on FCP, but I cannot seem to change footage I got on a dvd to an avi, or quiktime file, to edit it in final cut pro. Probably the people filmed something, played it on tv (from camera) and recorded it on a dvd recorder. When I want to change it, the audio gets an error. What I want to do know is play it on my dvd player (because it plays fine on it) and hopefully import it on the HVX and record it on tape so I can capture that in final cut pro. Is that possible? It would be a great help if somebody knows this, because my deadline is coming close! Thanx

Yes you can, simply connect yor DVD's outs to your camera's Component connectors and put a cassette in, play the DVD and rec the camera, tha's all.

Make sure the camera is in VTR-tape mode
Monitor it in the cameras LCD panel

I hope this helps.

I don't believe the component on the HVX accepts an input signal, you can only do that with S-video and composite. You don't have to record it to tape either. You can just use Capture Now in FCP, just make sure you have "non-controlled device" on in your capture settings.

It doesn't work. I connected the HVX to the dvd player with component out (included with camera) and it has three plugs (a red, green and blue one) which I connected in the back of the dvd player. In the dvd player there are 4 connections: aux in, line out (red) and two white audio connections. I tried all sort of combinations with the red, green and blue plugs. I did this while pressing the two rec buttons on the camera, but nothing shows on the screen. Hope somebody knows what I am doing wrong here?? Thanx

Ok, it is like Jester said and you can only do it with a s-video cable which I have now. But still if I want to capture it without putting it on tape, it doesn't work. It says; This operation could not be completed as there is no video. The video shows on the lcd and I said the capture settings to non- controllable device?

Sorry I made a mistake, I mean "composite"...
Note: do not connect nothing else to the remain HVX's connectors, monitor through the HVX's LCD.

I've solved the situation, thanx guys! I connected the dvd player with the hvx through an s-video cable, and used normal plugs for the audio. I recorded the footage I needed on tape (capture now still didn't work) and captured it on FCP.
