Hi Caitya,

I am not from India, but I was in Mumbai in April shooting a doc, and I did do a lot of looking for a couple items I needed. You would think in Bollywood you would be able to find anything, but I found some basic necessities (diffusion, CTB and CTO gels, for example) impossible to find.

What I can tell you is where in Mumbai to start: The camera and video stores are in Veer Nariman (V.N.) Road, and in the side streets to the East, just South of the Chatrapathi Shivaji Terminus (CST, aka Victoria) rail station.

Good luck. India is an amazing, wonderful place to visit, but it can be very frustrating if you want to get work done.

Caitya, i am currently in India (Chennai) and am originally from here but was in the US for 18 years.

Unfortunately, in India there is not a big used equipment market. Most of the used stuff in the US can be bought over from very useful sites like DVX but its not the same in India. Having said that if you can check the area near CST as the above user pointed out. That is definitely a good placer to look especially if you are looking for old manual lenses. check also on eBay as there are many copy cat companies in India who make everything from tripod's to follow focus. these are suppose to be new but they are cheap imitation and hence are cheap in price!!

another possibility is posting in India specific portals like www.sulekha.com or rediff.com and see if you get lucky. if you are interested in a DVX100B minimally used i have one. i can also hook you up with some folks with HVX especially for rental.

good luck in India. I am sure you will remember it for a long time.

cheers
