Anyone done this? Are the bit rates the same? I'm thinking of adding another body (D7100/D7000) for just video. thanks.

I haven't seen much of anything on the 7200… I always assumed it would be my next body, but man… talk about a ho-hum release.

Confused though - you want comparisons of the D7200 to the 5300, but you want to buy a 7000 or a 7100??

If you're looking for a 7000/7100 - do whatever you can to get the 7100. It was a huge step for Nikon in the APS-C semi-pro line. I've shot thousands of frames and hours of footage on both. Skip the 7000 and get another 5300 before you get a 7000. The 7100 is a much sharper and cleaner image for stills and video - it;s in the same class as the 5300 and they play well together.

The 7100 and 5300 are very similar as far as video goes - I've used both for 2-camera projects and they intercut just fine. The 5300 gives you 1080-60 and articulating screen; the 7100 is a more pro-level stills camera (but only does 720 @ 60fps). Dual card slots, quick white balancing, higher-end larger batteries, larger body. If you have HDMI monitoring gear, the 7100 is a great choice. If you need the rotating screen or do lots of conformed slowmo, get the 5300.

No, I have both a 7100 & 7000 and looking at either the 5300 or the 7200 as a video body.

I gotcha - 5300 is pretty sweet, cheap, and the 7100 has you covered for a great stills camera.

I'd see what testing is out there for the 7200, though I haven't seen much of anything. Just doesn't seem like a really exciting release.

If I were considering those 2 cameras, I'd probably rent an NX1 and a nikon adapter for a weekend of testing, and see how it fits with the Nikons.
