'Vibrance' vs Saturation

Hi
I notice a setting used in several plugins, ie Color Finesse called 'Vibrance'. For all intents and purposes it seems like Saturation.

Could anyone explain the difference and when-why you would want to use it?

I've noticed the same thing. I couldn't tell much difference. I suspect (don't know for sure, but suspect) that vibrance might change saturation and midrange contrast at the same time. Not something I'm interested in, so I stick with saturation and adjust curves separately. Just the way I prefer to work.

But my speculations aren't knowledge. Hopefully someone who actually knows will lay it out for us.

In Lightroom vibrance doesn't mess with the skin tones much but cranks all other hues up so you can make an image more saturated but nor turn people nuclear orange. Saturation affects all hues the same.

I would image it would be similar across the board, but I do not know for sure.

Vibrance: Adjusts the saturation so that clipping is minimized as colors approach full saturation. This setting changes the saturation of all lower-saturated colors with less effect on the higher-saturated colors. Vibrance also prevents skin tones from becoming over-saturated.

Tanx for the question, questions are sometimes more useful than the answer, to me anyway...
