Very Quick Test Of AG HPX 250

david-

thanks for taking the time.

colors are vivid. what gamma was set?

nd on/off?

on sticks? ois on/off?

zooming out was a good idea. it really shows off the reach of the 22x lens.

any other thoughts about handling? lcd? metering? u care to share?

hey, with that wind we know the mic works just fine!

again, thanks.

be well

Cine V

ND on.

sticks and no OIS of course.

LCD is a joy. Hard to look at the 170 LCD anymore.

22x zoom is startling good. I did a zoom out from a structure about 1000 yards away, and it looked as if it was a few feet away at the start and you could barely see it at the end.

more later. Hope to get some action footage this weekend once work duties subside.

I'm very happy with the colour of that test. Thanks for posting. Any chance you can upload the out-of-camera video file? I can supply some web space, if it will help.

@grant - yep, we always cut it short before the snows fall. :)

@mike - are you referring to the mxf file or the transcoded pro res file?

The MXF.

I'm trying to get hold of as many MXFs from the 250 as I can to try and convince myself that the 250 is enough better than the AC160 to justify using P2, and particularly losing overcrank at 1080p.

I use to think the same way.... before i bought it !!! yahaa!!
I can tell you that its sensor ( same as 160 ) perform very well, at bright & low light.
I love the grain of this camera.
I am very happy with the powerful 10bit codec wich is AMAZING ! even if i'm new with P2 and 10bit, i'm on my ass !!
i seen some chroma noise in shadows in some test but it never embarassed me in post, when i've played with colors.

I can post some footage but i don't understand when you said "losing overcrank at 1080p", my english is not quite at the point.

If someone have specific mxf request, i can do it.

But i miss to say that only your project have to convince you to get the right tool for the right job...
P2 workflow and 10bit codec are very interesting and specific for what i wanna do with it. but you know, i presume.

greetings!

I would like to see this cam rigged up to a 35mm dof adapter. Always loved the hpx redrock encore look. I know not many like dof adapters anymore. Just curious as to how it would look.

The 160 can overcrank to 60fps in 1080p mode. The 250 can not.

If someone have specific mxf request, i can do it.

For me, just a range of different subjects. I want to experiment with how far the files can be pushed around in post without looking terrible. A perfect situation would be the same shots taken at the same time on both a 250 and a 160. Unfortunately, I live in a long way from a large city and can't try either of these cameras. On paper, they both have things about them I'm not happy about, but I can't spend $30K+. I'm trying to decide which set of compromises to make, or even wait to see what else comes out in the next year or so.

I don't think that major improvement wich override 250 performances can append next year.(( not true for 3Dstuff ), i think small sensor cam have reached a great level with XF305 and 250 capabilities. And if you are interested on big sized sensors, just wait a month.

Shot this afternoon with our new cam.

AVCIntra 100 1080/24pN.

Look for some fast motion footage soon.
Hi David, excellent zoom test, you really got vivid colors and a very nice overall contrast (I love the CINE-V gamma).
Sharing the original MXF file would be great... Please...!!! :cheesy:

Thank you very much!

I mounted one of our Letus Ultimates on the HPX250 yesterday. The MOD of that 22x lens won't allow me to zoom in all the way using the achromat designed for the HPX170/EX1, but just backing off to normal full frame focal length focused fine. Camera looked pretty sharp with Letus, much like the EX1. Here is a way to get a great codec with shallow DOF, full raster resolution. Not as convenient as an AF100, but a more flexible codec for post, good resolution, even after softening from Letus.

David and inefab: I am strongly considering purchasing an hpx250 but would really like to see some raw MXF files recorded in AVCIntra 100. Would one of you be able to provide a link to a file or two? Thanks in advance!
