Very detailed blog about 1 days short drama shoot with 7D

Thanks phillip. Very thorough!

Just to add a bit more: This sums up the compromise you have to make if you want to shoot filmic on a budget. There are little problems along the way such as the dreaded choice of live view vs. field monitor (or even both, but 30p!) input sound etc. but as you point out, the positives to shooting DSLR on a small production often outweigh any negatives.

I loved the added drama, bit mad that the owner would arrive back and start going crazy but I guess he has every right to. Very rarely do things go off without a hitch.

wow, i cannot tell you how informative and helpful this was to read this. As a beginner to much of this stuff being able to read step by step what you did along the way is amazing, its almost as if i was there (almost).

This really confirms what ive been thinking for a while (i need to upgrade to a 7D from a d90).

I cant wait to see the finished product.

Yes it was very informative,so why not get rid of z-finder and use monitor ? Maybe it requires more cpu power to show footage on LCD in 7D and through HDMI out or AV out in the same time, thats why its disabled.Or magic lantern for 5D has this issue solved and can show footage on internal LCD and external monitor in the same time ?

Better be careful, Philip. You didn't give absolute uncompromising praise! That's dangerous in this new Internet age... you even said that "the 7D’s form factor on it’s own is a bit of a nightmare". Don't be surprised if you get that comment thrown back in your face over and over, months later...

With that tongue-in-cheek said, excellent report and thanks for laying out step by step what you went through. You used a lot of Zacuto gear there...

Thanks Phillip. But why not just get permission to shoot in the place? Seems a big risk to take to not get all of your shots. And it seems that the small footprint of the crew/gear could be a new selling point to locations.
