VENICE: Top Gun 2 shot on the SONY VENICE (Claudio Miranda) (a few questions)

Hahaha, when did this blog post go from Sony Venice to a bunch of crazy F35/65 and other nut jobs having a heart to heart discussion about movies. Gotta love DVX...

Anyway, I liked what I saw. I appreciate the non-CGI environment of the film. And I do think it'sstupid to ride a motorcycle without a helmet. Plus it's the most uncomfortable thing to do at anything more than 15mph.

So, to take this even further off-topic, which I love doing... I travel all over the country working and whenever I’m in a state with no helmet laws, I never see anyone wearing one. Maybe 1 out of 100...

This is more off-topic than the previous off-topic. So, it's off-off-topic.

About a month ago, some dude is riding his bike somewhere on a Florida highway. During a thunderstorm. The lightning hits his helmet and splits it, fries it, you name it. The guy actually survives the strike. But he can't control the bike itself. RIP.

That's a shame! What bad luck man... RIP

ADD is alive and well in the film community :b

Top Gun, back in ‘86, had every college-aged male trying to join up to fly. I went to navy flight school in ‘91, and earned my Wings of Gold in early ‘93. The movie was looked upon by active duty naval aviators as incredibly cheesy... but secretly, we all thought it was cool.

I’m looking forward to seeing this new sequel. Based upon the trailer only, the visual signature is different because the cockpit scenes are VERY wide angle, whereas the original cockpit shots were framed tighter, even if they were only in the studio. That image posted earlier in the thread of the four Venice sensor blocks on the glareshield...I’d hate that in my field of view, even if I was only in the rear cockpit pretending to fly. But I’m sure the wide framing was to accent the fact that Cruise is really in the cockpit, not some sound stage.

I haven't seen Top Gun in a while but as far as I can remember the russian cockpit shots were real and the actor shots were in front of rear projection.

If one slowed down the tape speed to frame-by-frame, one could see that the rocket never actually hits the VVS plane.

PS. Until, MiG-29 came out in 1982 and squadrons became operationally ready in 1985, a Soviet pilot would be crazy to challenge a fully equipped US fighter aircraft. All one has to do is to refer to the Operation Mole Cricket 19 (aka the "Bekaa Valley Turkey Shoot").

While there are some little design quirks I don’t like about the Sigma’s, mechanically they feel great and they’re built like tanks and can survive in the real world. With my limited time with the one I had on loan, I thought it looked great. I’m sure at that level, their standards are even higher than mine, so I’m sure if they used them, they tested them six ways from Sunday and found them to meet their criteria for image quality and performance.

While I love my Canon CN-E primes, if I was buying from scratch today, Sigma may be the ones getting my money. And actually, the Sigma 105 T1.5 is the next lens on my list.
