Hello!
I've just gotten back to editing after not using Premiere for years. I've primarily done visual Effects in AE.
So now that I'm shooting HD, my first experience was with Vegas 9 (and now 10). I find the interface and usability great! Without a moment of reading a manual or looking at tuts. I was trimming, crossfading adding music and titles and rendering my first piece. I also have the Creative Suite CS5. It is essential that I can apply Magic Bullet Looks. But it appears MB does not support Vegas 10 (9?).
So I ended up rendering out of Vegas then bringing it into AE to apply LOOKS. Besides the extra time involved, and fot being able to preview my footage in its graded glory
this extra step must degrade the image quality?
So I tried Premiere. With Colorista and looks installed. I haven't tested the Mercury engine compared to Vegas 10 (I have an enabled GTX 460). First thing I looked for were the handles I became use to to drag a fade in/fade out. A nice feature in Vegas. So what I find is I must drag a fade effect to each clip, both the in and out, before I can get to work. Sucks. But at least looks works!
I was thinking about doing my rough assemble, cuts in Vegas, which is fast, the importing to Premiere to finish up. Doesn't seem to be an elegant way with any of the EDL exports either Premiere to Vegas or visa versa.
Also I want to use Cineform Neoscene. Question, is their any difference in quality, say with 1080p 24 footage, if I transcode first, then bring into Vegas or Premiere? Or bring in my footage, trim and make my selects, then transcode only the footage I want to work with? It bseems like a waste of time transcoding so much more footage that you don't plan on using. But if it effect quality, I'll go the long way around.
Honestly, trying to get a good post workflow is so much more work than learning the ins and outs of DSLRs?
Thanks
Max
Any comments or advice will be appreciated.
