Variable Neutral Density Filter

What do you think of Variable Neutral Density Filter, should I stay away from them?

I'm looking at this one to use with the 14-42mm lens:
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/758940-REG/Fader_Filters_VND_52II_52mm_Mark_II_Variable.html

I also noticed that page says its a 52mm front thread with a 55mm rear thread. Does that mean it needs a 55mm to 52mm adapter to use on the Panasonic lens?

There's also this one, which says it's "designed for HD Video"

better to use stepup rings that choose filter for step down ... otherwise will have vignetting

No. It means that the filter itself fits onto a 52mm lens. However, if you want to stack another filter, the other side (rear thread) of the filter will take a 55mm thread. 52mm on lens side. 55mm on filter to ? side.

This is done to reduce vignetting on wider angles.
