Vancouver Rain - Canon 7D 60p SlowMotion

All shot on the Canon 7D at 60fps, pulled into CinemaTools and converted to 24p, and edited in Final Cut. Color grading and smooth cam applied.

This was all handheld and shaky. SmoothCam in FCP did a really great job of cleaning it up.

Used my Prime Nikon 50mm f1.8 with an adapter ring.
Shot at 250 ISO and 1/60 shutter speed.

your opinion need... So i have been looking into buying a second video camera for doing weddings, I currently shoot with a canon xha1 and love the camera. I was thinking abou buying a little second camera like the canon vixia hd camera that shoots in 24p 30 and 60 frames. But after looking a still cameras such as the 7d it is raising the bar a little bit. What do you think using this camera for strictly shooting movies? good camera? reliable? cost effective?

I personally would take an HV40 or HF11. I already own an HV30 (what I learned on, and have always been involved in HV20.com) But either of those is a solid choice for what you're looking for. This is knowing that you have an XHA1... Many of the wedding shoots i've seen done have looked spectacular with the Vixia series. But you're right that the 7D really sets the bar. Your B Camera doesn't have to be the best. But then you could always make your XHA1 your B camera :P

megahy, if you could take the extra time to post the same exact video here WITHOUT smoothcam, I would be very very interestd to see how well of a job smoothcam does to clean up shakiness. Would love to see that comparison if you have the time. =)

Cool shots, love the way the rain drops bring out the camera quality. Well edited together with the music.

I'll see what I can do. But the thing is SmoothCam has settings that are adjustable so only default settings just to keep it simple. Should be up in the next day or so for you.

Mind you though at 60fps, you wont see too much shake because of the slow motion applied.
