V for Vendetta

I may possibly get to go to the NYC premier of Vendetta. The anticipation is killing me, but I'm trying not to get too pumped in case I don't get to go.

I hope Natalie and Hugo are there (and seeing the Wachowskis would be cool, too). I could do without Joel Silver.

but i think we all can respect that -- especially with Watchmen being the Encyclopedia that it is -- i'm glad he's being cautious, what with movies like daredevil and all of that junk happening.

i dont blame him at all for shying away from it. its totally understandable. the only problem is that if people see that the guy who created the graphic novel wants nothing to do with it they will most likely automatically think "oh it must suck if he isnt involved with it".

but oh well i dont blame him.

that would be really cool if you got to go. if you go take pics i wanna see them :)

No pics, I didn't want to offend anyone who was there by acting like a fanboy.

Don't get too excited about this one. It's beautifully shot, has some great sequences, but has a lot of issues with the muddled and overly-pedantic script. It's trying to be really controversial but its message is kind of unclear. You know how Reloaded got weird and made no sense by the end, despite tons of explanatory monologues? Now try to do extreme left politics that try and generate a lot of controversy within the same story mold. Doesn't work. The story world and characters aren't that well fleshed out, either. The climax is fun, though.

My friend snuck me into the VIP room with all the stars and producers, by the way (and the Wachowskis, of course.) All good people. I hope the movie does well, but wish it had been better.

how far off of the graphic novel did it go?

I haven't read it, but it makes enough references to contemporary America that I have to assume it goes pretty far. It's kind of muddled in that comic book story that's been condensed too much kind of way, so I could be wrong, though.

yeah i've heard it makes a LOT of references to america. i've heard from different things that its the only thing that they stray from from the graphic novel...

Yeah, to be honest, the after party made much more of an impression on me than the movie, and I don't remember the movie in great detail.

But it was okay. The flaws were the same flaws Reloaded and Revolutions had, but not so intense. (Except the political/ideological bent, which was even more overdone.)

I'm headed out in about 10 mins to see it, my theater is opening it tonight for some reason...cool!

ya mine too but i cant make it cause i'm editing... definitely going tomorrow though! I would have liked to have seen it before opening day but oh well...

Just got back. I totally LOVED the movie, so did my wife. It rings very familiar. It's not an action movie, I hope people aren't expecting that. I didn't read the graphic novel so I personally could care less about what they changed, to me this version fit well in 2006 as being the kind of person that's not closed or afraid to question things.

im on my way out, here in a few minutes to go see it. i've read a little bit of the graphic novel but not quite enough to compare yet. i'll let ya know what i think when i get back.

ok i just got back from the theater. I LOVED this movie. It had action, story, drama, there were even a few funny moments, and great acting on all parts. Hugo Weavings voice was great for the part of V. Stephen Rea was great as Chief Inspector Finch, and John Hurt was great as the tyrannical dictator Chancellor Sutler. Natalie Portman gave one of her best performances of her career. I didn't notice if she slipped to different British accents because I'm not trained to listen for the differences, so to the untrained ear it seems like the same dialect. The directing was really good, and the cinematography was great as well.

I've only read a little bit of the graphic novel, but from what i've read, it strayed a bit from the novel. Portman's Evey was 24 and works at a TV station instead of being a 16 year old waif. There were a few other strays that I noticed but won't go into it because of spoilers.

Definitley a must see movie... 5 outta 5 stars in my book. Best of 2006 so far.

Just Got back and I agree it was the best film I've seen so far this year!, definetly great filmmaking by James McTeigue and the Wachowski's.
