Hmm, I got some basic questons regarding using a UV filter on the xh-a1

do you need a mattebox?
which one's are considered "good"?
is there a loss in sharpness?

if you have any personal experience with different uv filters, please share:)

uv filters are often just used to protect the lens. Considering you've bought decent filters there should be no loss in sharpness. I recommend multi-coated UV filters, but its hard to go too wrong.

I have a Hoya, but Tiffen, B&W, Nikon, Canon and others all make good glass. Its really really hard to screw up a UV filter so any known manufacturer will be fine.
No you don't need a matte box. I don't they even make rectangular UV filters.

Thanks, yeah guess I just wanted to make sure I didn't waste money on something crappy, but I suppose it should be fine then.

Cheers

I picked one up at Best Buy for about $17.00, if for nothing else - just to protect the lens, keep it clean and it will do the job just fine.
