UV Filter for DVX100B

Hey,
I'm gonna be ordering a DVX100B from B&H pretty soon here and I really want to get a UV Filter to protect the lens. Anyways, I was just wondering if there's a specific brand or kind of UV lens that is more recommended (preferably from B & H so I can order it with the camera) because I don't really know what to look for. Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks!

No specific brand, but also consider getting a polarizer instead, as it doesnt cut down too much light and it serves two purposes.

Hmmm okay, I'll look into that. I pretty much know little to nothing about UV filters/polarizers. Like I just typed in "UV" under the "Filters and Accessories" search on B&H and a huge list of different filters came up, and I haven't the slightest clue which I should be looking at; any help is appreciated.

Get the best filter money can buy. You can't go wrong with that for a UV.

You certainly can go wrong wtih that. Any cheap filter you put in front of your lens is going to degrade the image. You should never put anything but the best filter in front of your lens, if you're going to put anything there at all.

Unless you're going into a dangerous situation (mounting the camera on a car, for example) you should think twice about why you'd put any filter on at all. But putting cheap glass on? That's the worst move you can make. True, it'll affect a DVX less than it would an HVX or other HD cam, but it's still a questionable move.

B+W and Heliopan are top-class filter brands. Hoya and Tiffen are kind of middle of the road. Crystal Optics is bottom of the drawer.

Thanks for the great responses! One more question (this is probably a really obvious one though), is there a specific "size" of filter I need to get?

Is throwing a Tiffin circular polarizer in front of a DVX100B going to result any any noticeable degradation of quality? If it does, is it worth the extra contrast?

Thanks Barry! I ended up ordering a Heliopan UV filter with my DVX! I appreciate your input.
