Utter Newbie asking for Help...

Please can some kind person(s) point me where I can find out how to load footage from the XH-A1 onto my Vista PC? I have Adobe Premiere CS3 and firewire. I can plug the two together but I simply cannot get the PC to collect the footage. The Vista option can see the camera and it rewinds the tape, starts it running but I get a red lettered message "Playback STD Locked Playback is restricted" They aren't kidding when they say restricted. The PC asks me to choose between Microsoft Import Video and using Premiere. I have chosen the Microsoft option hoping to put the whole tape onto the PC but although it rewinds the tape to the beginning and then starts playing it through at what appears to be standard speed the display screen goes from black to grey and sometimes some wavy lines of red squares also appears. After a little while the counter stops but the tape carries on "playing". Then the whole thing stops with a message from Vista saying that the Video was not imported properly and to check the tape is not blank. It is not blank. There is no problem playing the tape on the camera and watching it on the little screen.

What am I doing wrong? Any help would be most gratefully received. Thank you.

THis kind of message usually occurs if you are trying to capture standard definition footage into an HDV timeline or visa versa...Do you have your Premiere project set up to match the footage format you are trying to capture?
 
Thank you. I will check this out. Would it make any difference with the standard Vista facility? It doesn't ask for the definition (unlike Premiere which asks for the definition). I thought it might be an idea to simply use the Vista to get the footage onto the PC and then work with the video files in Premiere?
