USM for Video? Kit Lens

Someone mention that there are 2 kit lenses. 1) 28 to 135 with USM and 2) 18 to 135 without USM.

Isn't USM for Autofocus? Since I've heard that the 7D video does not have autofocus, does the USM even do anything for video? Or is it primarily for stills?

So non-USM lens are strictly manual focus only?

The extra 10mm seems nice. But are there any other advantages to the 28 to 135mm besides USM over the wider kit option?

From what I have seen there is only one kit, the one with the 28-135. Maybe some stores are making their own with the 18-135? USM would allow the lens for focus faster.

There s in fact a 18-135 but its a scarce item here in the US. Mostly they have been found in Europe

18-135 kit also includes a uv filter, lens hood, and extra battery as well. Makes it a better deal than the 28-135 if you can afford it, imo.

The 18-135 is one of the kit options here in canada. Don't get it, it sucks. It got really plasticy construction, not that sharp and has no focus marks on the actual barrel, a 1/4 turn and your at infinity, and at each lens marking your going down a half stop, you reach 5.6 a little bit after reaching 50 on the lens. Useless for video, not great for stills, save your money.

Doesn't USM also mean "constantly available manual focus" without having to disengage the AF switch?

I'm not sure, it has the AF switch and does feel pretty much the same with it on or off, but it's still not a good lens.
