Using sony miniDV CAM tapes

Re: Using sony miniDV CAM tapes

On my previous DVX i had used nothing but SONY PDVM-40N DVCAM tapes. I had about 60 hours on the camra and can truthfully say i never expirienced an audio dropout. Now thats my problem- with all this info about how people with MQ tapes expirience audio dropouts (both cleaning heads and not) i am reluctant to switch. I just got a replacment DVX with 15hours on it from panasonic (long story, but they are very nice at panasonic head office) and am unsure what type of tape to feed it. I know MQ's make you heads last longer but im not willing to go that route if i get continuous audio dropouts.

SO, my question to everyone, or people that are using the MQ's- On average how many audio dropouts do you encounter per tape?

Re: Using sony miniDV CAM tapes

I only ever use MQ's. I don't think I've *ever* had an audio dropout. I do, however, encounter more frequent picture dropouts now. It used to be an average of one dropout every four or five tapes, now it's up to two or three one-frame dropouts per tape.

Re: Using sony miniDV CAM tapes

i've been running sony's exclusively thru my dvx for a yr w/o any problems. if i wanted to, could/should i switch safely to MQs w/ a proper cleaning, or is it safer to stick w/ what's working?

Also, my PD-150 has been exclusively run w/ sony stock for 2+ yrs. would a switch (w/ cleaning) be advisable?

thanks!

Re: Using sony miniDV CAM tapes

What are the benefits, if any, of using dv cam tapes instead of mini dv tapes in the dvx 100?
Anyanwu

Re: Using sony miniDV CAM tapes

I was one of the first early birds to pick up a Sony DSR-20 DVCAM deck
The decks counter now reads 1860 hours (!) on this little machine - and I had to feed all kind of tapes .
But in 90 % I used Sony DVCAM stock with all of my camcorders
(Sony DSR 500 - JVCDV--5000 - DVX 100 A) without problems and I won ´t change that.
