Using ProsRes Proxy

I'm running on fcp 6 right now so I'm injesting footage as regular ProRes.

The idea of being able to injest footage into a ProRes Proxy format at 45mbps is pretty crazy. File sizes should be less than half of what I'm currently doing. The thought of saving so much space is almost enough for me to upgrade to fcp 7.

I was wondering if anybody has used this ProRes Proxy format and how they like it. How does the visual quality compare to regular ProRes?

Here you go

Hmm.... well the quality of the first is definitely better. I'm wondering how much that little difference in quality will matter after it's compressed for web/dvd etc.

When you start to zoom in you totally see a difference. Proxy also looks much when played...very, very, grainy. The quality differences you see in the above photos (and they are there look closely) will become very apparent when video is played back I am sure. See thread over in GH1 section comparing ProRes 422 (HQ not that it matters) to ProRes LT. I'd say ProRes LT is the way to go.

ProRes LT rather than just ProRes?
What would be the main difference.
