Re: P2 CMS: I simply want to use it to move files from P2 PCMCIA slot on laptop to external drive and hand off drive to client. To me it's not very straight forward. w When I thought I did move files to drive it left out the text file! Does anyone have a straight forward approach to doing this? I've been dragging and drop via PC laptop to usb drive and people are saying I'm taking too much risk corrupting or losing files this way. thanks, dutch

Hi Adutch,
Number one rule is always write protect your card before it goes into a computer. Then follow steps below (I use a mac, but is should be the same).

1) Load your P2 into PCMCIA / Dual Adaptor slot and mount card.

2) Create new folder on external drive named "P2A".

3) Drag and drop LASTCLIP.txt from P2 card into P2A folder on external.

4) Open P2CMS

5) Click "..." button on left hand side of P2CMS source window and navigate to P2 Card to view contents.

6) Click on a clip and then Select all (Command+A on a mac).

7) File/Export all clips (Command+E on a mac).

8) Verify or Change export location to folder created in step two

9) Verify "COPY" radial is enable and verify "DO COMPARE" box is checked

10) Press okay and then press okay again when the move warning dialog box comes up.

Your clips will now be copied onto the external HDD and verified, so you have peace of mind when you format the card. The verify step takes extra time, but

Best,
Jason

thanks, Jason. test this again with your steps. i'm curious to see how much extra time it will take. it already takes me 20 min to move 16gb to drive via usb.
also, does anybody know if this checks footage for artifacts while being transferred. I have occasional artifacts after transfers. It's never on the p2 card; always after transfer. I've been write protecting since the begining.

I was using P2CMS. the last clip txt file was not being transfered.
so i started dragging and dropping. (with no problems)
As i understand it the last clip txt is used to connect spanned clips.
P2 CMS does this, eliminating the need to save the last clip txt file.
thats what i thought.

i tried p2 cms. It takes about triple or more time via usb to transfer. it found 5 corrupt clips (with glitches on a frame) out of 59 total. i wrote down the clip names and successfully reimported those 5.

anybody else report problem clips during transfers? what's the protocol for avoiding that?
Also, does it normally take nearly 1.5 hours to move 12gb with p2cms?

How does p2cms compare with Shotput? any feedback would be great!
thx.
