Using "infected tape"

I just got a DVX used off of ebay and for some reason the guy never answered my question about what brand of tapes were used in the camera before it got to me so I would continue using the same brand , but no reply from him. So I just got Panny tapes to be on the safe side and I recorded about 30 seconds to test out the footage and it all seemed well. I then went to capture the footage on my capture cam ( Ran sony premiums all the time through that, which are wet) and I GUESS that since I put the Pannasonic tape in the capture came, letting the tape run through the dirty heads, I then put the tape back in my DVX, not thinking anything of it, and now I'm getting these wide pixelated bars on my footage that I just filmed. A few times they were wide solid blue lines that ran horizontal. It's only about another 30 seconds that I filmed. Can someone verify this if dirty heads is the problem? I plan on running a cleaner through both the DVX and the capture cam.I really wanna know if I can use the same tape though even after I cleaned both cams heads.

Run a cleaning tape through both cams and it should be OK. You should have done that before you tried anything, though.

Do not use a cleaning tape for heads dirtied by lube mixing. This will only cause more damage. Yes, the problems sound like clogged heads, though could be from tape alignment issues. Your best bet is a thorough (professional) hand cleaning of the heads in both cameras.

A cleaning cassette has to be the same type (wet or dry) as the tapes used.

Looks like I started off on the wrong foot upgrading from my VX. I already ran the head cleaner, which was Panasonic brand by the way on both cameras. Do you think that maybe if I fast forwarded that mixed lubed tape about a minute or so that it would be like a putting a fresh tape in the DVX deck since I forwarded the ribbon to a part that hasn't touched wet lube?

Are you talking about FFWDing a cleaning cassette? Absolutely not. That'll do damage to the heads. Cleaning cassettes are like fine-grit sandpaper, and are meant to scrub off dirt. And since they're abrasive, they are to be used in play only and not record, and are never to be fast-forwarded or rewound. Use them no more than 5 or 10 seconds at a time with camera in VTR mode and play. Use no more than once a month. Dispose of when the tape hits the end.

You can try this, though I've never used it for a mixed-lube situation: grab a fresh, balnk stock of miniDV, whatever tape you normally use. Put the camera into VTR mode, insert the tape, and press play. Let it run for an hour. Eject and dispose of the tape.

That works for most dirty heads, but again I have never mixed tape types so I don't know if it works in that situation.

No, I was talking about just fast forwarding the "infected" tape, the tape that I used in both cams which transfered the wet lube from my capture cam to my DVX. I was wondering if fast-forwarding that tape about a minute or so would make the mixed lube part of the tape sort of "pass by" I guess you could say. I don't know how else to explain what I'm trying to say. I'm not exactly sure to what part of the tape gets contact from the lubricant, I'm guessing the ribbon? (Don't know exact video term of the ribbon inside the tape)
