Using HVX w/ FCP - no monitor output from cam

I am using FCP 5.0.4 and am shooting with my HVX. No P2 yet but am using an FS-100 to shoot 1080 HD. Some footage I shot a month ago is stored on a harddrive for now. I want to view the footage on a small HD LCD I picked up recently. The LCD has a vertical rez of 800 it claims, but it will display 1080i.

The chain I have set-up is firewire from my G5 to my HVX. HVX is set to P2/MCR for playback. Running FCP I have a clip in the timeline and can see it fine on the HVX flipout. However, I am outputting to the LCD via component out of the HVX and am getting nothing on the HD display.

Anyone have an idea what is going on? I have tried most of the menu setting I can on the HVX with no good results.

What you are trying to do is an unsupported feature - yes it is a bummer I know. You can however use the RCA outputs on the side to monitor an sd pass through.

Monitoring through the component output is only supported as a live monitoring option or through playback from the camera.

If you want to monitor hd from final cut pro you need to drop a bit of cash on a third party card - like the ones from blackmagic or AJA
